About the Religious Gold

PAMP Suisse Religious Gold Bars (Faith Series)

PAMP Suisse's Religious series, also marketed as the Faith Series, combines investment-grade gold with religious iconography across five designs representing the world's major faiths. Each bar is struck from 999.9 fine gold, individually serial-numbered, and sealed in PAMP's tamper-evident CertiPAMP assay packaging. The five designs are the Cross (Christianity), Buddha (Buddhism), Ka'bah (Islam), Menorah (Judaism), and Lotus (Hinduism).

These bars occupy a market niche that no other LBMA-accredited refiner has attempted: bullion products with genuine religious and cultural significance. Generic private mints produce religious-themed silver rounds, but none carry the authentication technology, global brand recognition, or LBMA accreditation that PAMP provides. The bars function simultaneously as investment bullion, devotional objects, and gift items, particularly in fractional sizes.

Available in gold at 1 oz, 10g, and 5g weights, the Religious series sits alongside PAMP's five other major design families: the Fortuna (the flagship design since 1979), Rosa, Lunar, Liberty, and Love. The Fortuna bar is PAMP's most liquid and widely traded product. The Religious series carries identical quality and security features but trades at slightly wider buy-sell spreads due to lower volume.

The fractional sizes (5g and 10g) are specifically positioned for the gift market. Gold bars are traditional presents for christenings, Diwali, Eid, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and other religious occasions across cultures. The CertiPAMP packaging provides an attractive presentation that bridges the gap between jewellery gifts and pure investment bullion, offering both symbolic meaning and retained financial value. The Buddha design is reportedly the best-selling across the series globally, driven by demand from Southeast Asian and East Asian markets.

The Five Designs

  • Cross (Christianity): A Latin cross with decorative surrounding elements. Most widely stocked in Western markets.
  • Buddha (Buddhism): The Great Buddha seated in dhyana mudra (meditative pose). The best-selling design globally.
  • Ka'bah (Islam): The Ka'bah in Mecca with surrounding architectural details. Popular for Eid and Hajj gifts.
  • Menorah (Judaism): The seven-branched menorah, the ancient symbol of Judaism.
  • Lotus (Hinduism): The lotus flower, symbolising purity and spiritual enlightenment in Hindu tradition. Strong demand in India and Southeast Asia.

Security and Authentication

Each bar features three layers of security. The CertiPAMP sealed pouch is tamper-evident; opening it is irreversible and reduces resale liquidity. The laser-engraved serial number on each bar matches the assay certificate. PAMP's Veriscan technology provides a third layer: each bar's microscopic surface topology is scanned during manufacture and stored in a database. Dealers with Veriscan readers can verify authenticity non-destructively without breaking the assay seal. The LBMA-accredited refiner mark on the reverse is recognised by bullion dealers worldwide.

PAMP Religious Gold Bar Tax Treatment by Country

As gold bars from an LBMA-accredited Swiss refiner at 999.9 purity, the Religious series qualifies for investment gold tax exemptions in every major market. The bars carry no face value and are not legal tender, which affects capital gains treatment in certain jurisdictions.

United Kingdom

Investment gold bars at 995 fineness or higher are VAT-exempt. The PAMP Religious bars at 999.9 purity qualify. Bars are not CGT-exempt in the UK. Only British legal tender coins (the Britannia and the Sovereign) receive CGT exemption. Gains on bars are taxed at 18% (basic rate) or 24% (higher rate), with a £3,000 annual CGT allowance. PAMP gold bars qualify for SIPP (Self-Invested Personal Pension) inclusion, providing income tax relief at the investor's marginal rate.

United States

No federal sales tax. Over 35 states exempt investment-grade bullion from state sales tax. Gold bars at 99.5% purity or higher from approved refineries qualify for inclusion in a self-directed IRA. PAMP is an LBMA-accredited refiner, and these bars meet the purity requirement. Long-term capital gains on bullion are taxed at the 28% collectible rate.

Canada

Gold bullion at 99.5% purity or higher in bar, ingot, coin, or wafer form is GST/HST-exempt. The PAMP Religious bars qualify at 999.9 purity. Capital gains are taxed at the 50% inclusion rate (66.67% above CAD $250,000 from June 2024).

European Union

Investment gold bars at 995 fineness or higher are VAT-exempt under the EU Investment Gold Directive. The PAMP bars qualify.

Australia and New Zealand

In Australia, gold at 99.5% purity or higher is GST-free. In New Zealand, gold at 99.5% purity or higher is GST-exempt. The PAMP bars qualify in both markets. Australia applies CGT with a 50% discount for holdings over 12 months. New Zealand has no formal CGT.

Singapore and Hong Kong

In Singapore, gold bars at 99.5% purity or higher and at least 0.5 troy oz qualify as IPM (Investment Precious Metals) and are GST-exempt. The 1 oz Religious bar qualifies; the 5g and 10g bars fall below the 0.5 troy oz minimum and may attract 9% GST. Hong Kong has no sales tax, import duty, or capital gains tax.

PAMP Religious vs Fortuna and Other Gold Bars

The PAMP Religious series competes primarily against PAMP's own flagship product and against gold bars from other premium refiners. The choice between them comes down to purpose: pure investment efficiency versus a product that combines gold ownership with personal or cultural meaning.

The PAMP Fortuna bar is the comparison that matters most. Both are struck from 999.9 fine gold by the same refiner, sealed in identical CertiPAMP packaging, and carry Veriscan authentication. The Fortuna design (the Roman goddess of fortune) has been in production since 1979 and is PAMP's most traded product. It commands the tightest buy-sell spreads of any PAMP bar because dealers hold deeper inventory and turnover is higher. The Religious bars carry a slight premium at purchase and may face marginally wider spreads on resale, reflecting lower trading volume. For pure bullion accumulation, the Fortuna is the more cost-efficient choice.

Against bars from other refiners, the comparison shifts to brand and security. Valcambi (also Swiss, LBMA-accredited) offers the CombiBar multi-gram format and competitive pricing, but no religious-themed designs. Heraeus, Argor-Heraeus, Perth Mint, and Royal Mint produce high-quality gold bars, some at marginally lower premiums than PAMP, but none offer the religious design range or Veriscan authentication.

The Religious series' real competitive space is the gift market, where it faces no serious competition from investment-grade bullion. Generic private mints produce religious silver rounds and copper medallions, but these lack LBMA accreditation, serial numbering, and the brand credibility that makes a PAMP bar a genuinely valuable gift. For someone buying a gold gift for Diwali, a christening, Eid, or a Bar Mitzvah, the Religious series provides a product that holds both financial and symbolic value in a way that no generic bar or round can match.
