About the Happy Diwali Silver

Diwali-Themed Bullion from AARUS

The Happy Diwali series from AARUS is a Canadian-produced bullion range designed specifically for the Diwali gift market. Gold and silver bars branded with Diwali imagery tap into one of the oldest and largest seasonal precious metals demand drivers globally: the Hindu tradition of buying gold and silver during the festival of lights.

AARUS is a Canadian precious metals brand that produces .9999 fine gold and silver bars, distributed primarily through Toronto-area dealers such as Gold Stock Live, Bullion Mart, AU Bullion, and Master Jewellers. The company is not LBMA-accredited, though it states that its products are minted from LBMA-approved refiner metal. Each bar carries an individual serial number and ships with a certificate of authenticity on an assay card.

The cultural context for this product is significant. Buying gold on Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali celebrations, is considered auspicious in Hindu tradition and is rooted in the belief that new precious metals during Diwali bring prosperity for the coming year. This tradition drives a measurable spike in gold demand across India and South Asian diaspora communities every October and November. The Happy Diwali bars serve this specific market, with designs celebrating the festival's themes of light, prosperity, and renewal.

Diwali-themed bullion typically features imagery associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, alongside motifs such as diyas (oil lamps) and rangoli patterns. The AARUS Happy Diwali range positions these bars as both an investment purchase and a culturally meaningful gift, bridging the gap between precious metals accumulation and festival tradition.

Tax Treatment of AARUS Happy Diwali Bars

As privately minted bars with no legal tender status, AARUS products are taxed based on their metal content and the rules of the buyer's jurisdiction.

Canada

This is the primary market. Investment-grade gold bars (99.5%+ purity) and silver bars (99.9%+ purity) are GST/HST-exempt across Canada. The AARUS Happy Diwali bars at .9999 purity for both gold and silver comfortably meet this threshold.

United States

No federal sales tax applies. State-level treatment varies, with roughly 35 states exempting precious metals from sales tax entirely. Several states set minimum purchase thresholds for the exemption: California requires $2,000, Florida $500, New York $1,000. For IRA eligibility, the .9999 purity meets IRS requirements, but IRA custodians typically require products from LBMA/COMEX-approved refiners. Since AARUS is not LBMA-accredited, most custodians would not accept these bars for IRA purposes.

United Kingdom

Gold bars of 99.5%+ purity qualify as investment gold and are VAT-free. Silver bars attract the full 20% VAT rate. Neither gold nor silver bars are CGT-exempt in the UK (that exemption applies only to UK legal tender coins). AARUS products are not commonly available through UK dealers.

Resale Considerations

The lack of LBMA accreditation is the most significant practical factor for buyers concerned about future resale. LBMA-accredited brands such as PAMP Suisse, Valcambi, and the Royal Canadian Mint have buy-back acceptance at virtually every bullion dealer worldwide. AARUS bars are primarily recognised by Canadian dealers, which narrows the resale market. For buyers purchasing primarily as Diwali gifts where the cultural significance matters as much as the investment, this may be an acceptable tradeoff. For buyers focused on long-term liquidity, LBMA-branded alternatives deserve consideration.

Happy Diwali Bars vs Alternative Diwali Bullion

The market for Diwali-themed precious metals has grown as major refiners have recognised the seasonal demand. AARUS competes primarily on price and regional availability, while larger brands offer stronger authentication and global liquidity.

Against PAMP Suisse Diwali and Lakshmi Products

PAMP Suisse launched dedicated Diwali-themed gold bars in 2025 featuring Lakshmi and rangoli artwork. PAMP bars carry LBMA Good Delivery accreditation, Veriscan digital authentication (each bar photographed at the nanoscale for unique fingerprinting), and CertiPAMP sealed packaging. These features command higher premiums but provide substantially better resale liquidity and authentication confidence. PAMP's separate Faith series includes a Lakshmi bar that serves a similar cultural market year-round.

Against MMTC-PAMP (India)

The MMTC-PAMP joint venture operates directly in India and produces Lakshmi and Diwali gold products in fractional gram weights (0.5g, 1g, 2g, 5g) specifically designed for the Indian gifting market. These products are not readily available to Canadian or US buyers but represent the benchmark for Diwali bullion in the Indian domestic market.

Against Standard AARUS Bars

The Happy Diwali bars contain the same .9999 fine metal as AARUS's standard branded bars. The Diwali design adds cultural and gifting value without changing the underlying investment proposition. For buyers who want AARUS metal purely as bullion and are indifferent to the design, the standard bars and Happy Diwali bars are interchangeable in terms of metal content, purity, and serial-numbered authentication.
