About Texas Precious Metals

A Shiner, Texas Bullion Dealer in the Kaspar Family Group

Texas Precious Metals is an American bullion dealer headquartered in Shiner, Texas, founded on 4 February 2011 by Tarek Saab and Jason Kaspar. It operates as a subsidiary of Kaspar Companies, a fifth-generation family business that has operated continuously in South Texas since 1898 and traces its origins to August Kaspar, who fashioned wire baskets in the 1890s. The dealer began as a business-to-business wholesaler supplying coin shops, opened to retail customers in May 2011, and ships bullion to all 50 US states.

The catalogue covers gold coins, silver bars, platinum and palladium products, pre-1933 US gold coins and Goldback currency notes, alongside co-branded collections. Texas Precious Metals is a recognised market maker for United States Mint products and an official distributor for the Perth Mint of Australia, and holds membership of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets and the American Numismatic Association.

Two in-house brands extend the business beyond dealing. The Texas Silver Round, a 1 oz silver round struck in 99.99% fine silver and introduced in 2013, carries a reverse design that changes each year. The Texas Mint division, spun off in 2018, strikes branded 1 oz, 10 oz and 100 oz silver bars for wholesale distribution. Customers who prefer not to take delivery can use Texas Depository, the company's private vault facility in Shiner, which opened in 2018 and offers segregated, insured storage for individuals, family offices, IRA custodians and institutional clients.

The business holds a US trademark on the image of the state of Texas for industry use, together with the slogan "Business the Texas Way."

From Wholesale Joint Venture to Mint and Depository

Texas Precious Metals began life in 2010 as a joint venture between Saab & Company Inc., the holding company of co-founder Tarek Saab, and Kaspar Texas Traditions, the precious metals arm of the Kaspar family enterprise. Saab had turned to precious metals after the 2008 financial crisis, having earlier run an online bullion business, and partnered with Jason Kaspar, who also leads Kaspar Companies. The venture launched formally on 4 February 2011 as a wholesale operation selling exclusively to coin shops and bullion retailers, capitalised by a $1.5 million silver purchase funded by the Kaspar family. It took no outside venture capital, grew organically, and opened to retail customers in May 2011.

Growth came quickly. Annual revenue reached $180.1 million in 2013, the year the company introduced its signature product, the Texas Silver Round. In 2014 it partnered with the Perth Mint on a Houston-Perth "Sister Cities" commemorative half-ounce silver coin marking the energy ties between the two cities, and in 2015 Inc. magazine placed the business at No. 200 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing private companies, recording a three-year growth rate of 2,095%.

In 2016 the company submitted a proposal for the state-chartered Texas Bullion Depository under Texas HB 483. The contract went to another bidder, and Texas Precious Metals instead built its own facility: Texas Depository opened in Shiner in 2018, a private vault using RFID, Bluetooth, barcoding and facial recognition technology to provide segregated, insured storage for retail, IRA and institutional clients. The same year the company spun off the Texas Mint as a standalone division to strike branded bullion for wholesale distribution; it has since produced more than 4.2 million ounces across 1 oz, 10 oz and 100 oz silver bars.

The Texas Silver Round became the thread running through the company's story. Its annually changing reverse has documented Texas imagery from a cowboy, longhorn and white-tailed deer to the Texas Capitol, along with a four-year Texas Revolution Series, and by 2026 more than 3 million rounds had entered circulation. The company also introduced a 250-ounce "mini-monster box" of silver, a half-size alternative to the standard mint-issued 500-ounce monster box.
