About the 25g PAMP Suisse Gold Bar

The 25g PAMP Suisse Gold Bar

This bar contains 25 grams (0.8039 troy oz) of .9999 fine gold, a metric weight that sits between the imperial 1/2 oz and 1 oz sizes. PAMP, short for Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux, was the first precious metals brand to put artistic designs on the reverse of minted bars, and its flagship Lady Fortuna motif, the Roman goddess of fortune with cornucopia, wheat sheaves, poppies, and the wheel of fortune, is among the most recognised bar designs in the world. The 25g denomination is available as a single minted Fortuna bar and also underpins PAMP's Multigram+25 product, 25 individually sealed 1g bars in a single card.

A single 25g bar from a major refiner typically trades around 3-6% over spot, lower per gram than small bars (1g bars can run 15-30%) but above the 2-5% typical of 1 oz gold bars. The weight is most at home in metric-system markets: 25g is a standard size in continental Europe, a very common bracket in India, and readily traded in the Middle East, while buyers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia more often deal in troy ounces.

Resale support is a core part of the case for paying the PAMP brand premium. The refinery is LBMA Good Delivery accredited for gold and silver, and PAMP bars are bought back readily by dealers worldwide; for international resale, brand recognition matters more than the weight denomination itself.

PAMP's minted bar range runs from 0.3g to 1,000g, and the 25g bar ships in CertiPAMP assay-card blister packaging, a format PAMP first developed in the 1990s that carries a QR code, an independent Swiss Federal Assayer signature, and an individual serial number. The Essayeur Fondeur certification mark has been used since 1980, with the official PAMP stamp on gold bars since 1982. Keeping the assay card sealed matters: an intact card preserves the chain of custody that dealers rely on at buyback.

Authentication goes beyond packaging. PAMP introduced Veriscan technology in 2015, which reads the microscopic surface topography of each bar as a unique fingerprint verifiable by app or PC scanner; in 2023 the underlying AlpVision technology received Security Feature accreditation under the LBMA's Gold Bar Integrity programme. The refinery itself holds LBMA Good Delivery status for gold and silver, has been an LBMA and LPPM Approved Referee since December 2003 (one of only three refiners worldwide holding both), and carries Swiss Melter License No. 89.

25g Gold Bar Tax Treatment by Country

At .9999 fineness this bar exceeds the 995 threshold that defines investment gold in the major jurisdictions, so purchases are sales-tax-free almost everywhere.

  • UK: 0% VAT as investment gold. Bars are not CGT-exempt, since that exemption is limited to UK legal tender coins; gains above the £3,000 annual allowance are taxed at 18-24%.
  • US: No federal sales tax; most states exempt bullion, though some apply transaction thresholds. Long-term gains are taxed at the collectibles rate of up to 28%. Gold of 99.5%+ purity from an accredited refiner is IRA-eligible when held at an approved depository, and PAMP's LBMA accreditation satisfies the refiner requirement.
  • Canada: 0% GST/HST at 99.5%+ purity.
  • Australia: GST-free as investment-grade gold (99.5%+ purity) from an accredited refiner.
  • New Zealand: GST-exempt at 99.5%+ gold purity.
  • Singapore: 0% GST under the Investment Precious Metals scheme for gold at 99.5%+ purity from LBMA-accredited refiners; no capital gains tax.
  • Hong Kong: no sales tax, no import duty, no capital gains tax.
  • EU: investment gold bars at 995+ fineness are VAT-exempt in every member state; capital gains treatment varies by country.

25g PAMP vs 1 oz Bars, CombiBars, and the Multigram Format

Against a 1 oz gold bar, the 25g PAMP gives up a little on both premium and liquidity. The 1 oz format typically runs 2-5% over spot versus roughly 3-6% for a single 25g bar, and the ounce is the standard trading unit in English-speaking markets, making 1 oz bars the easier resale in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. The 25g size earns its place with buyers who think in grams, which describes most of continental Europe, India, and the Middle East.

Against the Valcambi 25 x 1g CombiBar, the comparison is divisibility versus cost. The CombiBar is a single bar scored into 25 breakable 1g segments, letting the owner snap off small amounts to sell or gift without breaking an assay seal on the remainder. A solid 25g bar is the cheaper way to hold the same weight; the CombiBar charges for its flexibility.

The same logic applies within PAMP's own range. The Multigram+25 packages 25 individually sealed and individually assayed 1g Fortuna bars in one card, and that per-bar assay work makes it significantly more expensive than the single 25g bar covered here. Buyers planning to hold the full weight should take the solid bar; buyers who expect to peel off grams over time, or to give them away, are the audience for the divisible formats.
