OPM Metals Lunar Silver: frequently asked questions
-
OPM Metals, short for Ohio Precious Metals, was a private precious metals refinery based in southeastern Ohio, founded in 1974. It operated as a significant US silver refiner and bar fabricator, producing .999 fine silver bars including the Chinese zodiac Lunar series. In 2015, OPM merged with NTR Metals and rebranded as Elemetal Mint.

In 2015, OPM Metals merged with NTR Metals to form Elemetal Mint. Subsequently, NTR Metals, part of the same Elemetal group, pleaded guilty in 2018 to handling illegally sourced gold from South America, in what prosecutors described as a large-scale precious metals fraud. OPM's silver refining operations were separate from the conduct at issue, but the Elemetal name became closely associated with the case.
