The 10 oz Texas Mint Texas Silver Round is the heavy-weight format in an annual silver round series that has been in continuous production since 2013. Texas Mint, a division of Texas Precious Metals, operates out of Shiner, Texas as part of the 128-year-old Kaspar Companies family business. The company has processed over $4 billion in precious metals transactions and shipped more than 75 million ounces of silver since inception.
At .9999 fine silver (four nines), the Texas Silver Round achieves a purity level that most private mint rounds do not. The standard for generic rounds is .999 (three nines); the Texas round matches the purity of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, one of the purest sovereign coins in production. This higher purity comes without the premium that sovereign coins command, making it an efficient way to accumulate very high-purity silver at private-mint pricing.
The obverse carries the geographic outline of Texas with the Lone Star, a constant across all years of the series. The reverse design changes annually, creating a collectible element that generic rounds lack. Known reverse designs include Texas wildlife (longhorn, white-tailed deer, coyote, bobcat), the Texas Capitol dome, a cowboy on horseback, and the four-year Texas Revolution sub-series (2020-2023) depicting major battles from the 1835-1836 conflict.

Texas Mint produces bars alongside rounds in 1 oz, 10 oz, and 100 oz formats, all at .9999 purity. The four-nines purity exceeds the .999 standard used by most private mints and matches the Royal Canadian Mint Maple Leaf. This is achieved through additional refining steps that add marginally to production cost but place the product in a higher purity class.
Packaging options include individual plastic flips, tubes of 25, Mini-Monster Boxes of 250 rounds (10 tubes), and full Monster Boxes of 500 rounds (20 tubes). The Monster Boxes are distinctive: cold-rolled steel with powder-coated finish rather than the plastic cases used by most mints, sealed and individually serial-numbered for authentication. The Texas Revolution Series (2020-2023) featured chronological battle designs from Gonzales to San Jacinto across four consecutive years.
Tax Treatment of the Texas Silver Round
The Texas Silver Round is a private mint product with no legal tender status. Tax treatment follows the standard rules for silver bullion, with one notable advantage: Texas itself charges no sales tax on precious metals.
- United States (Texas): No state sales tax on precious metals in Texas. Buyers purchasing from Texas Precious Metals directly avoid sales tax regardless of purchase amount.
- United States (other states): Approximately 35 states exempt bullion from sales tax. The .9999 purity exceeds the IRS minimum for silver (.999), making these IRA-eligible. Texas Mint products are widely accepted by IRA custodians.
