About the 1 oz Dove of Peace Silver Round

Israeli Bullion from the Holy Land Mint

The 1 oz Dove of Peace Silver Round is produced by Israel Coins and Medals Corp. (ICMC), trading internationally as The Holy Land Mint. ICMC was established in 1958 by Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, operating as a fully government-owned mint until privatisation in 2008 when it was acquired by the G.R.A.S. Group. The "Holy Land Mint" international bullion brand launched in 2014 alongside the first Dove of Peace silver round.

The design depicts a dove in flight carrying an olive branch, soaring over the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. Beneath the dove is an outline of the Old City walls with famous landmarks within. The dove-and-olive-branch motif references the biblical story of Noah (Genesis 8:11), a symbol of peace with deep cultural resonance across Abrahamic traditions. This religious and cultural identity distinguishes the Dove of Peace in a market dominated by national emblems (eagles, maple leaves, Britannias) and mythological figures.

These are bullion rounds, not legal tender coins. They carry no face value and are not issued by a central bank. Despite the "Mint" branding, ICMC is not Israel's monetary authority (that is the Bank of Israel). For tax purposes, the Dove of Peace is treated as a standard silver round in all jurisdictions, without the legal tender advantages of government coins.

All products come in tamper-proof sealed packaging with Certieye authentication technology (an optical verification system) and unique serial numbers. This level of packaging security is above average for private mint bullion and sits closer to what Swiss refiners like PAMP Suisse provide. The gold version (.9999 fine) is also available in bars and rounds across multiple weight classes from 1 gram to 1 oz.

Dove of Peace Tax Treatment

As a non-legal-tender bullion round from a private mint, the Dove of Peace receives standard silver (or gold) bullion tax treatment. It does not benefit from legal tender exemptions available to government-issued coins.

  • United States: IRA-eligible for both gold (.9999 exceeds the .9995 minimum) and silver (.999 meets the threshold). Tax-deferred gains when held within an IRA custodian. Outside retirement accounts, capital gains are taxed at the 28% collectibles rate. Sales tax varies by state.
  • United Kingdom: Gold rounds at .999+ purity are VAT-exempt as investment gold under EU-derived rules retained post-Brexit. Silver rounds are subject to 20% VAT. Neither is CGT-exempt (not UK legal tender).
  • Canada: Not RRSP-eligible (RRSP requires coins issued by a government mint with face value). The .999 silver purity qualifies for GST/HST exemption on the bullion itself.
  • Australia: Gold at 99.5%+ purity in investment form is GST-free. Silver at 99.9%+ purity also qualifies for GST-free treatment from recognised sources.
  • EU: Gold at 995+ fineness in bar or wafer form is VAT-exempt under Directive 98/80/EC. Silver subject to standard local VAT rates.
  • Singapore: Gold and silver at qualifying purities may qualify for GST exemption under the IPM scheme from MAS-approved sources.

Dove of Peace vs Swiss and North American Bullion

The Dove of Peace competes most directly with other privately minted, assay-carded bullion products from PAMP Suisse and Valcambi. These Swiss products have broader dealer recognition and tighter bid-ask spreads, built on decades of global distribution. The Dove of Peace offers a distinctive cultural and religious appeal that Swiss bars lack, but this comes at the cost of narrower liquidity through fewer dealer channels.

Against government-minted sovereign coins like the 1 oz Silver Britannia or 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf, the Dove of Peace generally carries lower premiums at purchase but offers no legal tender protections, no CGT exemptions, and narrower resale options. Sovereign coins from major mints trade with minimal verification requirements; private mint rounds may require more scrutiny from buyers on the secondary market.

The Certieye optical authentication system and tamper-proof packaging position the Dove of Peace above typical generic rounds in terms of security. This is comparable to PAMP Suisse's Veriscan technology, giving buyers confidence in authenticity without the brand premium of Swiss-made products. The Holy Land Mint is the only bullion producer in Israel, giving it a unique geographic and cultural position in the market that appeals to buyers seeking a connection to the region's heritage.
