About The Britannia Coin Company
The Britannia Coin Company: Coin Dealing from Royal Wootton Bassett
The Britannia Coin Company is a UK coin dealer trading from the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett, a market town in north Wiltshire roughly six miles from Swindon. It is the numismatic retail arm of Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd, a private limited company incorporated on 3 March 2008 under company number 06521732 and founded by Jon White in the same town. The Britannia Coin Company brand was established in 2019 to handle the group's collectible and precious metal coin business.
The company runs a physical showroom at 29 High Street, a grade II listed former Lloyds Bank building that became available when the branch closed in 2022. It moved there in late 2023 from the group's premises at 143 High Street, which it had shared with Old Bank Antiques, a sister business within the Gold-Traders group. The group also trades from a former HSBC building on Fore Street in Bodmin, Cornwall.
Stock spans UK coinage from hammered and milled issues through to modern brilliant uncirculated and precious metal pieces. The range takes in gold Sovereigns, gold Britannias, proof sets, world coins, graded coins, medals and tokens, offered in both new and pre-owned condition. The company also provides probate valuations.
Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd is a member of the British Numismatic Trade Association (BNTA) and was the first precious metals company in the UK to receive Trading Standards' Buy With Confidence accreditation. In 2026 it became an Official Partner of The Royal Mint, the first such partner based in the South West of England, an arrangement that allows the business to buy and sell Royal Mint bullion bars and coins directly.
From a 2008 Wiltshire Start-Up to a Royal Mint Partnership
Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd was incorporated on 3 March 2008 by founder Jon White in Royal Wootton Bassett. From the outset the business positioned itself around consumer protection in a trade that then lacked formal accreditation, and it became the first precious metals dealer in the UK to earn Trading Standards' Buy With Confidence approval. National press attention followed within its first two years, with coverage in The Telegraph as early as November 2009.
The Britannia Coin Company was established in 2019 as the group's numismatic and collectible coin division. It initially traded from shared premises at 143 High Street, inside the Old Bank Antiques centre operated by the same group. In April 2023 the company announced a move to a larger, dedicated home at 29 High Street, a grade II listed former Lloyds Bank that had closed the previous year; the relocation was completed in late 2023, giving the coin business its own showroom on the same high street where the group began.
The wider group expanded alongside it. By 2023 it comprised the Gold Traders precious metals operation, the Britannia Coin Company and Old Bank Antiques, with a fourth venture, RWB Auctions, taking shape in a separately redeveloped former Co-op building on the same street, a £1.8 million project. External recognition arrived in the same period: Jon White was named Male Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2022 South West Business Awards, and the company appeared in the 2023 Fast Growth 50 index as the 15th fastest growing company in the South of England.
In 2026 Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd became an Official Partner of The Royal Mint, the first partner based in the South West of England. The partnership permits the business to buy and sell Royal Mint bullion bars and coins directly, adding mint-direct dealing to a Sovereign and collectible coin trade built up over nearly two decades.

Beyond physical measurement, buying from a BNTA-member dealer or a Royal Mint partner provides supply-chain assurance. If you have any doubt about a coin in hand, an independent numismatist or assayer can give a professional assessment.
