About the 1g Multigram Gold Bar

PAMP's Divisible Gold Bar in a Snap-Apart Format

The PAMP Suisse Multigram is a sheet of individually sealed 1g gold bars that can be separated from the set while each bar retains its own CertiPAMP assay certification. The concept was developed to reduce the per-bar fabrication premium on fractional gold: buying 25 individual 1g bars separately costs significantly more in premiums than buying a single Multigram+25 sheet containing the same total gold. Each separated bar is identical in every respect to a standalone PAMP 1g Lady Fortuna bar, carrying the same design, serial number, purity marking, and Veriscan authentication.

PAMP (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) was founded in 1977 in Ticino, Switzerland, and was the first refinery to put an artistic design on a bullion bar. The Lady Fortuna motif that appears on each Multigram bar is the world's most widely recognised minted gold bar design. PAMP holds LBMA Good Delivery accreditation for both gold and silver and is part of the MKS PAMP Group.

Three Multigram formats are produced. The Multigram+25 contains 25 individually sealed 1g bars (25g total gold). The Multigram+12 contains 12 bars (12g total). The Multigram Portfolio is an unusual multi-metal product: 16 bars of 2.5g each across four metals (gold, silver, platinum, and palladium), totalling 40 grams. There are also themed Multigram editions tied to PAMP's Lunar series, with Chinese zodiac designs replacing Lady Fortuna on the reverse.

The Multigram competes directly with two other Swiss LBMA-accredited divisible gold products: the Argor-Heraeus Goldseed (10 x 1g bars in a distinctive round format) and the Valcambi CombiBar (a perforated rectangular grid available in 10, 20, and 50-bar configurations). The Multigram's unique advantage is the combination of three features: snap-apart design, individual assay certification per bar, and Veriscan digital verification. Neither the Goldseed nor the CombiBar offers a Veriscan-equivalent system.

Each bar carries the Lady Fortuna design on the reverse (the Roman goddess of prosperity depicted with sheaves of wheat, poppies, horn of plenty, and coins) and the Essayeur Fondeur stamp, weight, purity, and serial number on the obverse. The CertiPAMP packaging units are scored to allow clean separation while maintaining the sealed integrity of each individual bar's assay certification.

PAMP's Veriscan technology maps the microscopic surface topography of each bar at the point of manufacture, creating a unique digital fingerprint stored in PAMP's database. The free Veriscan smartphone app (iOS and Android) can scan each bar through the sealed packaging to confirm authenticity. This is particularly relevant for PAMP products, which are among the most frequently counterfeited bullion items globally due to the Lady Fortuna design's high recognition value.

Multigram Tax Treatment by Country

Each individual 1g bar within a Multigram set receives the same tax treatment as any other 999.9 fine gold bar. The divisible format does not alter the tax classification.

  • UK: VAT-exempt as investment gold (995+ fineness). Subject to Capital Gains Tax on disposal; not CGT-exempt. The divisible format means individual bars can be sold separately, each triggering its own CGT calculation. The £3,000 annual CGT allowance applies across all disposals combined.
  • US: IRA-eligible. PAMP's LBMA accreditation and 999.9 purity meet all IRS requirements for self-directed precious metals IRAs. Costco's availability of Multigram+25 bars has brought the product into mainstream retail, though IRA purchases require a qualified custodian. State sales tax varies.
  • Canada: GST/HST-exempt at 99.5%+ purity. RRSP and TFSA-eligible through qualifying custodians.
  • EU: VAT-exempt under the Investment Gold Directive.
  • Australia: GST-free as investment-grade gold.
  • Singapore: GST-exempt as an Investment Precious Metal. No CGT. PAMP has a strong physical presence in Singapore through MKS PAMP.
  • Hong Kong: No sales tax, no import duty, no CGT.

Multigram vs Goldseed and CombiBar

All three leading divisible gold bar products come from Swiss LBMA-accredited refiners. The choice between them involves trade-offs on total gold content, per-gram premium, and security features.

The Argor-Heraeus Goldseed offers 10 individually sealed 1g bars in a round assay card. The lower total gold commitment (10g vs 25g for the Multigram+25) makes it more accessible for entry-level buyers or smaller gifts. Argor-Heraeus bars carry minimalist refinery markings without decorative imagery. Per-gram premiums typically fall between the Multigram and the Valcambi CombiBar.

The Valcambi CombiBar uses a perforated rectangular grid format available in 10, 20, and 50-bar configurations. Bars snap apart along scored lines. CombiBar pricing typically offers the lowest per-gram premium of the three products, reflecting Valcambi's more functional design aesthetic without a signature artistic motif. The 50-bar CombiBar (50g total) provides the most gold in a single divisible package.

The Multigram's premium position is justified by three factors: the Lady Fortuna design (the most recognised bar design globally, aiding secondary market liquidity), Veriscan digital authentication (the only consumer-facing bullion verification system of its kind), and the credit-card-sized form factor. The Multigram+25 is also the most widely distributed of the three products, available through major dealers worldwide and through Costco in the US, which has introduced the product to mainstream retail buyers who might not otherwise encounter fractional gold.

For buyers who want the maximum gold in a divisible format at the lowest premium, the 50g Valcambi CombiBar is the most cost-efficient option. For buyers who want PAMP's security features, brand recognition, and the convenience of a compact 25g package, the Multigram+25 is the established standard in divisible gold.

1g Multigram Gold Bar: frequently asked questions

The Multigram is a perforated sheet of multiple 1g gold bars sealed in a single PAMP Suisse CertiPAMP assay card. Each individual bar can be snapped off cleanly while retaining its own sealed certification and unique serial number. The most common format is the Multigram+25, a sheet of 25 individual bars totalling 25g, roughly credit-card sized.
Each 1g bar is 999.9 fine gold, equivalent to 24 karat. This meets the investment-grade threshold required for UK VAT exemption, Canadian GST exemption on gold, and US IRA eligibility. The purity is certified and stamped on each individual bar alongside its unique serial number.
Yes. Each bar within a Multigram sheet is sealed in its own individual CertiPAMP tamper-evident assay packaging with a unique serial number and assayer's certificate. The Multigram+25 variant contains 25 individual 1g bars on a single perforated card; snapping off a bar does not void its individual certification. Bars in sealed assay cards typically command better resale prices than loose bars.
