About the 1 oz Ka `Bah. Mecca Gold Bar

PAMP Suisse Ka'Bah Mecca Gold Bar: The Faith Series

The 1 oz PAMP Suisse Ka'Bah Mecca bar is one of five designs in PAMP's Faith series, each representing a major world religion. The Ka'Bah design depicts the cuboid structure at the centre of Al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Islam's holiest site and the direction of prayer (qibla) for Muslims worldwide. The remaining four designs represent Christianity (Romanesque Cross), Buddhism (Buddha), Hinduism (Lotus flower), and Judaism (Menorah).

The bar is struck to .9999 fine gold and individually serial-numbered, sealed in PAMP's CertiPAMP tamper-evident assay card. PAMP's Veriscan technology, introduced in 2017, scans the microscopic surface topography of each bar to create a unique digital fingerprint verifiable through the PAMP Suisse app, even through the sealed packaging. This makes counterfeiting of sealed PAMP bars extremely difficult to pass off on the secondary market.

The Faith series has particular appeal to Muslim investors seeking physical gold as a store of wealth. Gold bullion is widely considered permissible under Islamic finance principles as a tangible, real asset. PAMP consulted with religious scholars during the design process to ensure each of the five designs was respectful and non-denominational in its artistic treatment. No other major LBMA refinery produces a comparable multi-religion thematic bar range, giving the Faith series a unique position in the market.

Faith Series Weight Range

The Ka'Bah Mecca design is produced in gold weights from 1g through 1 oz: 1g, 5g, 10g, 20g, 50g, and 1 oz. Silver versions are available in 1 oz and 50g. Some weight and design combinations within the Faith series have limited mintages; the 5g gold Cross variant was produced with a mintage of 7,500 units. Other combinations may have different limits or be open-ended production runs.

The obverse features the Ka'Bah structure rendered in fine detail. The reverse carries the PAMP Suisse logo, weight, purity (.9999), "FINE GOLD" designation, assayer's mark, and the individual serial number. The design has remained consistent since the series launched.

Ka'Bah Mecca Gold Bar Tax Treatment

The Ka'Bah Mecca bar is not legal tender in any jurisdiction. As a .9999 fine gold bar from an LBMA-accredited refiner, it qualifies as investment gold under the standard rules applied to all bars of equivalent purity.

  • United Kingdom: VAT-exempt on purchase. Subject to CGT at 18-24% on disposal (£3,000 annual allowance). No CGT exemption for bars; only UK legal tender coins qualify.
  • United States: No federal sales tax. State exemptions vary. IRA-eligible (.9999 purity from LBMA-accredited refiner). Long-term gains taxed at the 28% collectibles rate.
  • Canada: GST/HST-exempt at 99.5%+ purity.
  • European Union: VAT-exempt as investment gold under Directive 98/80/EC.
  • Australia: GST-free as investment-grade gold (99.5%+ purity).
  • New Zealand: GST-exempt for fine gold bars at 99.5%+ purity.
  • Singapore: GST-exempt under the IPM scheme. No capital gains tax.
  • Hong Kong: No sales tax, no import duty, no capital gains tax.
  • Switzerland: PAMP's home country. No VAT on investment gold.

Islamic Finance Considerations

Physical gold bullion is widely accepted as Shariah-compliant under Islamic finance principles. The bar itself is refined gold with a decorative design; the Ka'Bah motif does not alter its status as a standard bullion product. Buyers should consult their own scholars or financial advisors for specific rulings applicable to their circumstances.

Ka'Bah Mecca vs Lady Fortuna and Other PAMP Bars

The Faith series shares all manufacturing standards and security infrastructure with PAMP's other design ranges. The distinction is purely aesthetic and thematic. The 1 oz Lady Fortuna bar remains PAMP's most liquid product, with unlimited production runs and the deepest secondary market recognition. Faith series bars typically carry a slightly higher premium due to their niche appeal and potentially lower mintage runs. Buyers who prioritise tight buy-sell spreads and maximum liquidity should prefer the Fortuna.

For buyers drawn to the Faith series specifically, the Ka'Bah Mecca competes with the four other designs in the range. All five share identical purity, security, and packaging. The choice is driven by personal or religious significance. The limited-mintage variants (such as the 5g Cross at 7,500 pieces) add a collector dimension that open-ended production bars do not have.

Outside PAMP's portfolio, no major LBMA refinery produces a comparable multi-faith thematic range. Competitors in the minted bar space include Valcambi CombiBar (modular, no thematic designs), Heraeus kinebar (holographic security, no religious themes), and Perth Mint bars (kangaroo design, government backing). The Faith series occupies a niche that none of these address.

The 1 oz PAMP Diwali bar is another culturally themed PAMP product, targeting the Hindu festival of lights with Lakshmi imagery. Both the Diwali and Faith series serve markets where gold has deep cultural and religious significance beyond pure investment, and both benefit from PAMP's Swiss LBMA-accredited refining and Veriscan authentication technology.

1 oz Ka `Bah. Mecca Gold Bar: frequently asked questions

One troy ounce equals 1 oz. This is the standard unit used for precious metals worldwide, and differs from the everyday avoirdupois ounce (28.35g). The 1oz Ka'Bah Mecca bar contains 31.1035g of .9999 fine gold, meaning the bar is as close to pure gold as commercially produced bullion gets.
PAMP Suisse is an LBMA-accredited Swiss refinery founded in 1977, part of the MKS PAMP Group. The Ka'Bah Mecca bar ships sealed in a CertiPAMP tamper-evident assay card that certifies the bar's weight, purity, and serial number. It also includes Veriscan technology: a system that records the bar's microscopic surface as a unique fingerprint, verifiable via the PAMP Suisse app without opening the packaging.
