About the Multigram Gold

PAMP Suisse Multigram Gold Bars

The PAMP Multigram is a sheet of individually sealed gold bars that snap apart on demand, each retaining its own CertiPAMP assay certification, unique serial number, and the Lady Fortuna design that has been PAMP's signature since the Swiss refinery's founding in 1977. The primary format, the Multigram+25, contains 25 individually certified 1-gram bars totalling 25 grams of .9999 fine gold.

PAMP (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) was the first refinery to put an artistic design on a bullion bar. The Lady Fortuna motif, depicting the Roman goddess of prosperity with her mythical attributes (sheaves of wheat, poppies, horn of plenty, coins, and wheel of fortune), became the template for every decorative bullion bar that followed. The Multigram format extends this heritage into a divisible product that solves a genuine practical problem: gold's high per-gram price makes 1-gram bars useful for gifting, incremental selling, or barter, but buying them individually incurs substantial fabrication premiums per bar. The sheet format reduces per-bar cost while maintaining individual certification.

Each bar within the sheet carries PAMP's Veriscan technology, a proprietary anti-counterfeiting system that maps the microscopic surface topography of every bar during manufacturing. The digital fingerprint is stored in PAMP's database, and owners can re-scan using the free Veriscan app to verify authenticity. Given that PAMP bars are among the most counterfeited bullion products globally due to the Lady Fortuna design's recognition, this verification capability is particularly relevant. Current offerings include individual 1g bars, 25g complete sheets, and 10g formats.

The CertiPAMP packaging system encloses each individual bar in a tamper-evident assay card approximately the size of a credit card (2.125" x 3.375"). Each card bears the assayer's signature, confirmations of weight and purity, and the unique serial number. The cards are scored and perforated to allow clean separation from the sheet, and a detached bar is identical in every respect to a standalone PAMP 1g bar purchased individually. Dealers accept them interchangeably.

The obverse of each bar displays weight, purity, individual serial number, and the Essayeur Fondeur stamp (the registered Swiss assayer-refiner mark). The reverse carries the Lady Fortuna design in a prooflike finish. The Multigram Portfolio variant is unusual in offering four metals (gold, silver, platinum, and palladium) in a single product, though the 2.5g size per bar means premiums are substantial relative to spot for the non-gold metals.

Multigram Gold Tax Treatment

PAMP Multigram bars are not legal tender in any jurisdiction. Their tax treatment is determined by purity, weight, and the manufacturing provenance of an LBMA-accredited Swiss refiner.

United States: IRA-approved for self-directed precious metals IRAs. The .9999 purity meets IRS requirements under Section 408(m), and PAMP's status as an LBMA-accredited refiner satisfies the approved manufacturer criterion that trips up some private-mint bars. Costco's entry into selling PAMP Multigrams has brought the product to a mainstream retail audience. State sales tax varies by state. Long-term capital gains are taxed at the 28% collectibles rate.

United Kingdom: VAT-exempt as investment gold (gold bars of .995+ purity). PAMP bars are among the most widely traded gold products in the UK market. Not CGT-exempt, since CGT exemption requires UK legal tender status. A Gold Britannia offers both VAT and CGT exemption for UK buyers, an advantage no non-UK bar can match.

Canada: GST/HST-exempt at .9999 purity. Eligible for RRSP registered accounts as .9999 fine gold from a recognised refiner. Available from Canadian dealers including Silver Gold Bull.

European Union: VAT-exempt as investment gold bars under the EU Gold Directive (bars of .995+ purity).

Australia: GST-exempt as investment gold above the 99.5% purity threshold. Singapore exempts investment precious metals at 99.5%+ purity from GST, and PAMP has a strong presence in the Singapore market through MKS PAMP GROUP. Hong Kong has no sales tax on gold bullion.

Multigram vs Maplegram, CombiBar, and Individual Gram Bars

The Royal Canadian Mint Maplegram25 is the most direct competitor: also a sheet of 25 individually sealed 1-gram gold pieces at .9999 purity with snap-apart design. The critical structural difference is that Maplegram pieces are legal tender coins ($0.50 CAD face value) with the Maple Leaf design, while Multigram pieces are bars. This distinction matters for IRA eligibility (both qualify, but through different regulatory pathways), for CGT treatment in the UK (neither is CGT-exempt), and for brand preference. The Maplegram inherits the Maple Leaf's micro-engraved radial lines security feature; the Multigram carries PAMP's Veriscan digital verification. PAMP Multigrams typically trade at a slightly higher premium, reflecting the Lady Fortuna brand premium.

The Valcambi CombiBar is a Swiss gold bar scored into separable 1-gram pieces, available in 20g, 50g, and 100g formats. Like the Multigram, these are bar products from an LBMA-accredited refiner with no legal tender status. The CombiBar lacks Veriscan-equivalent digital authentication and carries a simpler design, but typically trades at lower premiums per gram. Both are manufactured in Switzerland and offer the same fundamental value proposition: divisible gold with individual unit integrity.

Perth Mint 1g gold bars in CertiCard packaging are individually packaged rather than sheet-format, meaning higher per-bar acquisition costs when assembling a multi-gram position. Individual PAMP 1g Lady Fortuna bars in standalone CertiPAMP cards carry the highest premiums of all gram-weight gold, reflecting the individual packaging and handling costs. The Multigram sheet format was designed specifically to undercut this per-bar premium while maintaining the same certification standard.

The Multigram's unique combination of features (snap-apart divisibility, individual CertiPAMP assay, Veriscan digital verification, and the Lady Fortuna design) is unmatched by any single competitor. No other product offers all four. Whether those features justify the premium over a Maplegram or CombiBar depends on how much value the buyer places on PAMP's authentication technology and brand recognition versus the Maple Leaf's sovereign mint status or Valcambi's lower cost.

Multigram Gold: frequently asked questions

The live gold spot price is $4,171.00. PAMP Multigram bars are priced per gram, so divide the spot price by 31.1 to get the per-gram metal value, then add the fabrication premium. Use the gold or platinum tabs on this page to compare dealer prices for each metal.
The core Multigram formats are the Multigram+25 (25 x 1g bars on a credit card-sized assay sheet) and the Multigram+12 (12 x 1g bars). A Multigram Portfolio version contains 16 x 2.5g bars across four metals: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. Each bar on the sheet carries its own Lady Fortuna design, individual serial number, and CertiPAMP assay certification. The main series is available in gold and platinum.
Each Multigram bar carries a unique serial number and is sealed in a CertiPAMP assay card with an Essayeur Fondeur stamp. PAMP's Veriscan technology maps the microscopic surface of each bar during manufacture; owners can verify authenticity by re-scanning with the free Veriscan app (iOS and Android), which compares the bar's surface fingerprint against PAMP's database. Individual bars snapped from the sheet retain their own sealed certification.
A standard bar is a single piece; a PAMP Multigram is a sheet of individually certified 1g bars that can be snapped apart along scored perforations. Each separated bar retains its own CertiPAMP assay seal and serial number, allowing partial sale or gifting without breaking certification. This divisibility distinguishes it from a single minted bar and from the Valcambi CombiBar, which is the closest competitor but lacks PAMP's Veriscan digital verification.
