About the PAMP Liberty Silver

PAMP Liberty: American-Themed Silver Bars from a Swiss Refiner

The PAMP Liberty range brings an unusual combination to the silver bullion market: American patriotic themes produced by one of the world's most respected Swiss refiners. The silver line, branded "Lady of Liberty," features a contemporary Art Deco-inspired Lady Liberty figure holding a raised lantern and sword. Available in 1 oz and 10 oz minted bar formats, the series is struck at PAMP's US facility rather than the Swiss headquarters in Castel San Pietro, aligning it with the "Buy American" sentiment that resonates in the US bullion market.

PAMP (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) is LBMA-accredited and ranks among the top precious metal refiners globally, one of only five referees on the LBMA gold refining panel. The Liberty series extends PAMP's proven infrastructure, including the Veriscan authentication system and tamper-evident CertiPAMP assay cards, to a product line designed specifically for American buyers. The related gold line, branded "America the Free," includes Statue of Liberty and Liberty Bell designs in 5g and 1 oz formats at .9999 purity.

The Lady of Liberty's Art Deco aesthetic deliberately distinguishes it from the US Mint's Walking Liberty and Standing Liberty designs. Rather than a classical interpretation, PAMP created an original contemporary figure with a mirrored-field backdrop that gives the bar a proof-like appearance. This design choice places the Liberty series in the space between pure bullion (where appearance is secondary to metal content) and collectible pieces (where design drives premiums), matching PAMP's broader brand positioning as "artistic precious metals."

Security Features

All PAMP Liberty bars include several authentication layers. The Veriscan technology scans each bar's unique surface micro-texture during manufacturing and stores it in a database; buyers with the free Veriscan app and a compatible scanner can verify authenticity by matching the bar's surface against the record. Veriscan achieved LBMA Security Feature accreditation, the first bullion authentication technology to do so. Each bar is sealed in a tamper-evident CertiPAMP assay card certifying weight and purity, with additional micro-engraved anti-counterfeit details integrated into the design.

These security features address a practical concern. PAMP bars are among the most counterfeited products in the bullion market due to their high premiums and brand recognition. For secondary market buyers especially, the ability to verify a bar's authenticity through Veriscan provides assurance that generic or lesser-known brands cannot match.

PAMP Liberty Tax Treatment by Country

PAMP Liberty bars are private-mint products with no face value or legal tender status in any jurisdiction. Their tax treatment follows the rules for silver and gold bars in each country.

United Kingdom

Silver Liberty bars carry 20% VAT. Gold Liberty bars are VAT-free as investment gold (gold bars of .995+ purity from LBMA-accredited refiners are exempt). Neither gold nor silver PAMP bars are CGT-exempt in the UK, because bars are never CGT-exempt; only UK legal tender coins (Britannias, Sovereigns) qualify for that exemption. UK buyers seeking CGT-free silver should consider the Silver Britannia instead.

United States

As the primary target market for the Liberty series, US availability is excellent through all major dealers. Gold bars at .9999 purity from an LBMA-accredited refiner generally qualify for IRA inclusion; silver bars at .999 also meet the purity threshold. Sales tax exemption varies by state, with approximately 35 states exempting bullion purchases. The fact that Liberty bars are minted at PAMP's US facility may appeal to buyers who prefer domestically produced bullion.

Canada

Gold bars at .995+ purity and silver bars at .999+ purity are exempt from GST/HST in Canada. PAMP bars meeting these thresholds are also eligible for RRSP accounts through approved dealers and custodians.

European Union

Gold Liberty bars qualify for VAT exemption under the EU Investment Gold Directive (bars of .995+ purity, weight accepted by bullion markets). Silver Liberty bars are subject to standard VAT rates, which range from 17% in Luxembourg to 27% in Hungary. The Liberty series is less commonly stocked by European dealers than the PAMP Fortuna, which is the default PAMP product in European markets.

Australia and Singapore

Australia exempts investment-grade gold (99.5%+ purity) from GST; silver at 99.9% purity also qualifies. Singapore's IPM scheme covers both gold and silver from LBMA-accredited refiners at qualifying purities. PAMP products are widely recognised in both markets.

PAMP Liberty vs Fortuna and Other Refiner Bars

The most direct comparison is with PAMP's own Lady Fortuna bar. The Fortuna is PAMP's flagship product, featuring the Roman goddess of fortune, with global recognition and the deepest secondary market of any PAMP design. It is available in sizes from 1 gram to 1 kilogram and is the default recommendation for anyone buying PAMP silver purely for metal content. The Liberty series is narrower in scope (1 oz and 10 oz silver, 5g and 1 oz gold) and specifically targets the American market. Both share Veriscan authentication and CertiPAMP assay cards.

Against Valcambi bars, which offer similar Swiss-refiner purity and LBMA backing, the Liberty series has the advantage of thematic design. Valcambi's bars are clean and utilitarian; PAMP's Art Deco Lady Liberty figure gives the bar visual appeal that some buyers value. Valcambi typically trades at slightly lower premiums due to less aggressive brand positioning.

Credit Suisse (now UBS-branded) silver bars are a classic competitor in the Swiss refiner space. They share LBMA accreditation and similar purity but lack both the thematic design element and the Veriscan authentication system. For buyers who value authentication technology, PAMP has a clear edge.

Compared to sovereign mint products like the Silver Maple Leaf or American Silver Eagle, the Liberty bars lack legal tender status and government backing. Sovereign coins typically have stronger resale liquidity and may enjoy tax advantages (IRA eligibility certainty, state-level legal tender exemptions). The Liberty bars' advantage is lower premiums over spot compared to coins, combined with PAMP's design quality and authentication infrastructure. For US buyers building a position in silver through bars rather than coins, the PAMP Liberty offers a branded alternative to generic bar products at a moderate premium step-up.

PAMP Liberty Silver: frequently asked questions

The PAMP Liberty series is a range of investment-grade bullion bars from the MKS PAMP Group, covering two product lines: the Lady of Liberty silver bars (1 oz and 10 oz, .999 fine) featuring a contemporary Liberty figure, and the America the Free gold bars (5g and 1 oz, .9999 fine) depicting American landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Bell. All are minted at PAMP's US facility, not the Swiss headquarters.
Gold Liberty bars (the America the Free line) are .9999 fine silver, the highest standard purity for investment gold. Silver Lady of Liberty bars are .999 fine silver. Both purities meet the thresholds for investment-grade bullion.
We currently track 5 dealers listing 7 PAMP Liberty silver products. Availability can vary by size and design, so comparing prices across those dealers is the quickest way to find the best deal.
PAMP Liberty products are bars, not coins. The Lady of Liberty line is a silver minted bar; the America the Free line is a gold minted bar. Neither carries a face value or legal tender status. Visitors searching for US numismatic Liberty coins (Walking Liberty, Standing Liberty, etc.) will find those are a separate category from a different issuer entirely.
