About Atkinsons Bullion

Atkinsons Bullion & Coins of Sutton Coldfield

Atkinsons Bullion & Coins is a UK precious metals dealer based in Sutton Coldfield, on the northern edge of Birmingham. The business was founded in 1990 by husband-and-wife team Paul and Keeley Atkinson, beginning life as Atkinsons the Jewellers, and the bullion and coin trade grew up alongside the jewellery retail operation. It trades through the legal entity C & C Jewellery Ltd, incorporated in 2004 and registered in England under company number 05079783.

The dealer sells gold and silver bullion online, with a range that takes in coins such as the gold Britannia, the Sovereign, the Krugerrand and the American Eagle, plus gold bars and silver bars in multiple weights, and a selection of pre-owned bullion. UK legal tender coins exempt from Capital Gains Tax form a notable part of the catalogue.

Alongside the web shop, Atkinsons keeps a physical showroom in Sutton Coldfield, open by appointment on weekdays, with discreet consultation booths for customers who prefer to buy face to face. The firm is a member of the British Numismatic Trade Association (BNTA).

Ownership has broadened since the founding years. A-Mark Precious Metals, the US precious metals trading group since renamed Gold.com, bought a minority stake in the company in 2023 and enlarged it at the start of 2026, while Paul and Keeley Atkinson have remained involved in the business they started.

From an £8,000 Stock of Jewellery to a Transatlantic Partnership

Paul and Keeley Atkinson founded the business in Sutton Coldfield in 1990 as Atkinsons the Jewellers. Paul Atkinson has said the venture "started with £8,000 worth of stock and a huge amount of support from our family." Bullion and coins were sold alongside the jewellery from early on, and over time the precious metals side grew into a business in its own right. The trading company, C & C Jewellery Ltd, was incorporated on 22 March 2004.

The move online came in the early 2010s, with the atkinsonsbullion.com web shop live by April 2013, putting the firm's gold Sovereigns, Britannias and bars in front of buyers across the UK rather than just the Birmingham area. The original retail jewellery shop closed in late November 2021 when Paul and Keeley Atkinson retired from retail jewellery after more than three decades, and the bullion operation carried on unaffected.

February 2023 brought the company's most significant corporate milestone. A-Mark Precious Metals, the NASDAQ-listed US trading group, agreed to buy a 25% stake in Atkinsons' parent company for $2.75 million, alongside a three-year supplier agreement, and the deal closed on 25 May 2023. The announcement disclosed that Atkinsons had turned over more than $130 million in calendar 2022, a measure of how far the business had come from its £8,000 beginnings.

A-Mark rebranded as Gold.com, Inc. in December 2025 and moved its stock listing to the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker GOLD. In January 2026, Gold.com acquired a further 24.5% of Atkinsons, lifting its holding to 49.5%, with an additional option from December 2027 that could take it to 75%. By then Atkinsons was reporting revenue of more than $370 million for calendar year 2025. The Gold.com announcement quoted both Paul and Keeley Atkinson as founders, and the family has stayed involved in the firm through each stage of the ownership changes.

If in doubt, an independent assay test gives a definitive answer.
