Design and Function

The bar's obverse features rows of raised nubs in a grid pattern, with weight, purity, and "FINE SILVER" stamped between them. The reverse has indented circles containing the Monarch Precious Metals crown logo (formed by combining the letters M, P, and M). The nubs on one bar slot into the indentations of another, creating a friction fit that holds firmly without adhesive.

Monarch Precious Metals grew out of Oregon Coin and Jewelry during the 2008 financial crisis. When the owners struggled to source silver bullion during the demand surge, they began hand-pouring their own bars. The company's original products were artisan bars stamped with individual letter punches. The Building Block series represents a shift to precision minting to achieve the tight tolerances required for the interlocking mechanism.

Tax Position for Novelty Silver Bars

Despite their unusual design, Building Block bars contain 999 fine silver and receive the same tax treatment as any other private mint silver bar. The novelty format does not change the underlying tax classification.
