About the 1 oz Rosa Silver Bar

PAMP Suisse Rosa: The Floral Bar

The 1 oz PAMP Suisse Rosa silver bar features a single blooming rose with two buds rendered in high relief on .999 fine silver. The design is purely visual: the obverse carries no text at all, letting the rose stand alone for aesthetic impact. All identifying information, including the PAMP logo, weight, purity, and serial number, appears on the reverse. This separation of art from markings is a deliberate choice that distinguishes the Rosa from most bullion products, where branding dominates both faces.

PAMP Suisse (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) was the first refinery to introduce decorative minted bars, starting with the Lady Fortuna design in 1979. The Rosa series extends that tradition with a floral theme that positions the bar as both a bullion product and a gift item. The Rosa is available in a wide range of sizes: gold from 1 gram to 1 oz (.9999 fine), and silver from 2.5 grams to 1 kilogram (.999 fine). The 1 oz silver bar is the most commonly traded size in the series.

Each bar carries an individual serial number in a one-letter, six-digit format (e.g., A123456) and ships sealed in a tamper-evident assay card. The serial number appears on both the bar reverse and the assay card, providing authentication and traceability. Unlike PAMP's Lady Fortuna bars, the Rosa does not carry Veriscan technology, which maps the microscopic surface topography of each bar for digital verification. Authentication for the Rosa relies on the assay card, serial number, and PAMP's LBMA accreditation.

The obverse features the rose motif in high relief with no accompanying text. The reverse displays the PAMP Suisse logo at the top, followed by weight, metal content, purity, assayer's mark, and serial number. The "ESSAYEUR FONDEUR" inscription confirms PAMP's status as an LBMA-approved assayer and refiner. Bars removed from their sealed assay cards may trade at a discount on the secondary market, as the card provides both tamper-evidence and official verification.

Tax Rules for a Private-Refinery Silver Bar

The PAMP Rosa is a silver bar from a Swiss private refinery. It carries no legal tender status in any jurisdiction.

United States

No federal sales tax. Most states exempt investment silver from sales tax. The .999 purity qualifies for inclusion in a self-directed precious metals IRA under IRS Section 408(m), and PAMP bars are widely accepted by custodians. Capital gains on silver are taxed at the collectibles rate of up to 28% for long-term holdings.

United Kingdom

Silver bars attract 20% VAT on purchase in the UK. The Rosa has no UK legal tender status and is therefore subject to Capital Gains Tax on disposal. Gains are taxed at the individual's marginal rate (18% or 24%), with a £3,000 annual exemption. The 20% VAT applies identically to all PAMP silver bar designs, whether Rosa, Fortuna, or Love.

Canada

GST/HST exempt for silver bullion at .999 purity or above. No distinction between bar designs for tax purposes. Capital gains taxed at a 50% inclusion rate.

European Union and Switzerland

Silver bars are subject to full VAT across the EU at national rates (17% to 27%). Margin scheme treatment may apply to pre-owned silver in Germany (Differenzbesteuerung gem. §25a UStG) and the Netherlands (margeregeling). In Switzerland, silver bars carry 8.1% VAT. PAMP bars are available through Swiss dealers with VAT-free vault storage options.

Australia and New Zealand

GST-free in Australia for silver at 99.9% purity. GST-exempt in New Zealand at the same threshold. No capital gains tax in New Zealand. Australian CGT applies with a 50% discount for holdings over 12 months.

Singapore and Hong Kong

Singapore exempts investment-grade silver bars at 99.9% purity from the 9% GST under the IPM scheme. No capital gains tax in Singapore. Hong Kong has no sales tax, import duties, or capital gains tax on bullion.

Rosa vs Fortuna: The Key PAMP Decision

The central comparison for any PAMP specialty bar is against the 1 oz Fortuna, PAMP's most popular and liquid design. The Fortuna features the Lady Fortune motif and benefits from Veriscan authentication technology (available on the Fortuna series since 2017, with LBMA Gold Bar Integrity accreditation since 2023). The Rosa does not have Veriscan. For a buyer focused on long-term liquidity and the strongest possible resale position, the Fortuna is the better investment choice within the PAMP range.

The Rosa's advantage is purely aesthetic: buyers who prefer the floral design over the Fortuna figure get an equally well-made bar from the same refinery at the same purity. Both carry the same assay card quality, serial number format, and LBMA backing. The Rosa is positioned more for the gift and presentation market, though it functions identically as bullion.

Rosa vs Other Swiss Bars

Against other Swiss LBMA refineries, the Rosa carries a premium for the PAMP brand and its design element. The 1 oz Valcambi Skyline offers its own distinctive architectural design with an assay card and serial number at a typically lower premium. The 1 oz Argor-Heraeus bar is more utilitarian but equally trustworthy in terms of LBMA accreditation and metal quality.

Rosa vs Generic Bars

The premium gap between the Rosa and generic 1 oz silver bars from American refineries is meaningful. Products from Sunshine Minting, SilverTowne, or Asahi Refining trade closer to spot with narrower buy-sell spreads. The Rosa premium pays for Swiss craftsmanship, the design, LBMA provenance, and the PAMP name. Whether that premium is worth paying depends on whether the buyer values these attributes or is focused solely on accumulating silver weight at the lowest cost.

1 oz Rosa Silver Bar: frequently asked questions

The Rosa bar is a 1 troy oz .999 fine silver minted bar from PAMP Suisse, a Swiss LBMA-accredited refinery founded in 1977. The obverse features a detailed single rose motif in high relief with no text, letting the design stand alone. The reverse carries the PAMP logo, weight, purity, and a unique serial number. Each bar is sealed in a tamper-evident assay card. Unlike PAMP's Lady Fortuna series, Rosa bars do not include Veriscan digital fingerprinting; authentication relies on the assay card and serial number.
The PAMP Rosa 1 oz bar contains 1 oz of 999 fine silver (99.9% pure). This meets the investment-grade silver standard recognised in the UK, EU, US, and Canada. The .999 fineness also qualifies the bar for inclusion in a US precious metals IRA, as PAMP is an LBMA-accredited refiner.
