About the 20g Rosa Silver Bar

PAMP's Floral Design in a Metric Silver Bar

The 20g PAMP Suisse Rosa silver bar features a single blooming rose with two buds nestled among leaves, rendered in high relief. The design is purely aesthetic: the obverse carries no markings at all, letting the rose motif stand alone for maximum visual impact. This positions the Rosa as PAMP's presentation and gift-market bar, where the appearance matters alongside the silver content.

PAMP (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) pioneered the concept of decorative minted bars when they introduced the Lady Fortuna design in 1979. The Rosa sits alongside the Fortuna, Lunar series, True Happiness, and Liberty designs in PAMP's product range. Each targets a different aesthetic or cultural market segment. The Rosa's floral theme gives it broad, universal appeal for gifting occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations where a decorative silver bar makes a meaningful present.

The bar is .999 fine silver, sealed in a CertiPAMP tamper-evident assay card with a unique serial number. One important distinction from the Fortuna: Rosa bars do not have PAMP's Veriscan digital authentication technology. Authentication relies on the assay card, serial number, and PAMP's LBMA accreditation. This is relevant at resale, where Veriscan-verified bars may command a marginal premium for their additional layer of provenance.

The Rosa range in silver spans from 2.5g through 1 kg, giving buyers a wide range of entry points. The 20g size sits in the mid-range: accessible as a gift, large enough to contain a meaningful quantity of silver (0.643 troy ounces), and competitively positioned against the 1 oz Rosa for buyers who prefer metric weights over troy ounces.

Design and Authentication

The obverse features the rose design in high relief with no text or markings. The reverse carries the PAMP Suisse logo (with registered Swiss cross mark), weight, purity, metal type, and unique serial number. The serial number appears on both the bar itself and the accompanying CertiPAMP assay card, enabling cross-verification.

No designer has been publicly credited for the Rosa motif. The CertiPAMP card provides assayer verification and tamper evidence. The card is described by PAMP as "irreplicable and extremely reliable." Bars in sealed assay cards command better resale prices than loose bars; the packaging is part of the product's value.

PAMP Rosa 20g Silver Bar Tax Treatment

The Rosa bar receives identical tax treatment to other PAMP silver bars. Its gift-market positioning does not affect its classification as investment-grade silver bullion.

United Kingdom

Subject to 20% VAT on purchase. Not CGT-exempt. The 20% VAT makes physical silver significantly more expensive to buy in the UK than in most other English-speaking countries. For UK buyers, PAMP gold Rosa bars are VAT-free (as investment gold), making the gold version substantially more tax-efficient than the silver version despite the higher absolute price.

United States

No federal sales tax. State tax exemptions apply in most states. PAMP silver bars at .999 purity from an LBMA-accredited refiner are IRA-eligible through approved custodians. Capital gains are taxed at the collectibles rate of up to 28%.

European Union

Silver bars attract standard VAT at national rates (17-27%). In Germany, the margin scheme (Differenzbesteuerung gem. §25a UStG) may apply to pre-owned bars. New PAMP bars from authorised dealers attract full VAT.

Switzerland

Investment silver carries 8.1% VAT. PAMP's home market offers the lowest silver VAT rate in Europe. Gold bars from PAMP are VAT-exempt in Switzerland.

Singapore

Silver at .999+ purity qualifies as Investment Precious Metals (IPM), exempt from 9% GST. PAMP has a significant presence in Singapore through local distributors. The Rosa bar's gift positioning aligns well with Singapore's strong precious metals gifting culture.

Hong Kong

No sales tax, import duty, or capital gains tax. Fully tax-free for precious metals.

Canada, Australia, and New Zealand

Canada exempts silver at .995+ purity from GST/HST. Australia exempts silver at .999+ purity from GST. New Zealand exempts silver at .999+ purity from GST. The Rosa bar meets all three thresholds.

PAMP Rosa 20g vs Other PAMP Designs and Swiss Alternatives

vs PAMP Fortuna 20g

The 20g PAMP Fortuna is the direct alternative from the same refinery at the same weight. The Fortuna has three advantages: Veriscan digital authentication, stronger brand recognition (the Lady Fortuna is the most recognised bar design globally), and deeper secondary-market liquidity. The Rosa's advantage is aesthetic: buyers who prefer the floral design over the Roman goddess get the same PAMP quality and CertiPAMP packaging. For pure investment purposes, the Fortuna is the stronger choice. For gifts where the rose resonates more than Lady Fortuna, the Rosa fills its role.

vs PAMP Rosa 1 oz

The 1 oz PAMP Rosa contains 31.1g versus 20g, delivering 55% more silver at a lower premium per gram. The 1 oz size is more widely stocked by dealers and more liquid at resale. Buyers choose the 20g for its lower absolute price or because they prefer metric weights. The 20g is also approximately credit-card sized in its assay card, making it a compact gift.

vs Valcambi 20g Silver Bar

Valcambi, another Swiss LBMA-accredited refiner based in Balerna, produces 20g silver bars at typically lower premiums than PAMP. Valcambi bars have a clean, utilitarian design without the artistic motif. Valcambi also offers the CombiBar, a perforated bar that can be broken into smaller segments for divisibility. For lowest cost per gram from a recognised Swiss refiner, Valcambi wins. For design quality and gift presentation, the Rosa wins.

vs Perth Mint and Royal Mint Bars

Both the Perth Mint and the Royal Mint produce sovereign-mint silver bars with government backing. Perth Mint bars feature the kangaroo design; Royal Mint bars carry the mint's branding. Government backing provides an implicit sovereign guarantee that private refiners like PAMP cannot offer. PAMP's advantage is the design heritage, CertiPAMP authentication, and Swiss craftsmanship premium that commands strong resale values worldwide.

20g Rosa Silver Bar: frequently asked questions

PAMP Suisse (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) is a precious metals refinery founded in 1977 in Castel San Pietro, Ticino, Switzerland, and part of the MKS PAMP Group. PAMP holds LBMA Good Delivery accreditation and is also accredited by COMEX, the Shanghai Gold Exchange, and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, making its bars recognised by institutional markets worldwide.
Several factors add to the Rosa bar's cost over a plain cast bar: Swiss minting by an LBMA-accredited refinery, a detailed blooming-rose design in high relief, an individually serial-numbered assay card that certifies weight and purity, and PAMP's brand recognition, which supports resale value. Generic bars trade closer to spot because they carry none of these elements.
Rosa bars rely on the tamper-evident CertiPAMP assay card and a unique serial number engraved on the bar's reverse, which matches the number printed on the card. Check that the seal is intact, the serial numbers match, and the PAMP Suisse hallmark and "ESSAYEUR FONDEUR" mark appear on the reverse. Note that, unlike the Lady Fortuna series, Rosa bars do not include Veriscan digital fingerprinting.
