About the 2 oz Valkyries Silver Coin

The 2 oz Germania Mint Valkyries Silver Round

The Valkyries is a four-coin series from Germania Mint depicting Norse Valkyries, each representing a season of the year. The 2 oz version is struck in Ultra High Relief (UHR) at .9999 fine silver, offering the most dramatic presentation of designer Mateusz Frackowiak's artwork. The series ran from 2022 to 2025, releasing one Valkyrie per year to complete the seasonal cycle: Hildegard (Winter), Ostara (Spring), Solveig (Summer), and Arnhild (Autumn).

Germania Mint, founded in Poland in 2019, has built a strong collector following through series that combine four-nines purity with ambitious artistic production. The Valkyries rounds bear a "10 Marks" denomination (for the 2 oz UHR version), but this is Germania Mint's proprietary token unit, not backed by any government. These are classified as silver rounds for legal and tax purposes, not coins.

The 2 oz UHR format gives the Valkyrie designs significantly more depth and detail than the 1 oz BU version. The Ultra High Relief striking creates pronounced three-dimensional depth that standard flat strikes cannot achieve, and the larger 45mm diameter provides a substantial canvas for the intricate seasonal symbolism in each design. Mintage for the 2 oz UHR versions is extremely limited, as low as 999 pieces for some variants, placing them closer to numismatic collectibles than traditional bullion.

As a complete four-coin set, the Valkyries forms a cohesive narrative arc designed from inception as a finite collection. Germania Mint has confirmed that the 2025 Arnhild is the final release, making the series a closed set rather than an ongoing programme. Complete sets are likely to command premiums on the secondary market as available supply decreases.

The Four Valkyries

  • 2022, Hildegard (Winter): "Protector of Men." Depicted with a Germanic spear and shield bearing the image of Fenrir the wolf. Armor adorned with the Algiz rune (an Elder Futhark rune associated with protection). Background shows a fortress in woodland under moonlight. Companion animal: wolf.
  • 2023, Ostara (Spring): Embodies the triumph of life over death and the renewal of spring. Accompanied by deer and hare as symbols of abundance. The name "Ostara" is etymologically connected to the English word "Easter."
  • 2024, Solveig (Summer): Represents warmth and vibrancy, continuing the seasonal pattern with summer symbolism.
  • 2025, Arnhild (Autumn): The final coin, representing the harvest season and the cycle's completion.

The reverse of all four coins features a wooden shield design with a howling wolf and the double-headed eagle seal of Germania Mint. Each coin ships with a Certificate of Authenticity and protective capsule.

Valkyries Silver Tax and Classification

Despite bearing a "Marks" denomination, the Valkyries rounds are not legal tender of any sovereign nation. The denomination is Germania Mint's proprietary unit (a nod to pre-Euro German currency), and carries no monetary or legal backing. Tax authorities in all jurisdictions classify these as silver rounds or medals.

  • United States: Eligible for precious metals IRA based on .9999 purity, which exceeds the .999 silver threshold. State sales tax exemptions for precious metals apply in approximately 35 states. Capital gains taxed at the 28% collectibles rate.
  • United Kingdom: Subject to 20% VAT as a silver product. No CGT exemption (not legal tender of any country). The margin scheme is available for pre-owned examples on the secondary market.
  • European Union: Standard VAT applies at the buyer's country rate (19% Germany, 21% Netherlands, 25% Sweden, etc.). The margin scheme may apply on secondary market sales. Despite the Germanic branding, these are not German government products.
  • Canada: At .9999 purity, these exceed the 99.9% threshold for GST/HST exemption.
  • Australia: At .9999 purity, these exceed the 99.9% silver threshold for GST exemption as investment-grade precious metal.
  • Singapore: Qualifies as an Investment Precious Metal (0% GST) given .9999 purity exceeds the 99.9% silver threshold.

2 oz Valkyries Silver Coin: frequently asked questions

Dealers are currently charging around 11.4% over the $65.58 silver spot price for this round. The 2oz Ultra High Relief format carries a higher premium than standard 1oz bullion because of its limited mintage and more involved production process, so expect to pay noticeably more per ounce than on a generic silver coin.
The Valkyries is a four-round series from Germania Mint depicting Norse and Germanic Valkyries, each associated with one of the four seasons. Designed by artist Mateusz Frackowiak, the series ran from 2022 to 2025 and is now complete. The rounds carry Germania Mint's own "Marks" denomination, which has no sovereign backing; they are technically silver rounds, not legal tender of any country.
The series comprises four annual releases: Hildegard (2022, Winter), Ostara (2023, Spring), Solveig (2024, Summer), and Arnhild (2025, Autumn). Each was issued in a 1oz Brilliant Uncirculated format, a 1oz ennobled "Valhalla" variant, and a 2oz Ultra High Relief version. Germania Mint has confirmed Arnhild is the final release, closing the seasonal cycle.
