About the MMTC-PAMP Lakshmi Ganesh Silver

LBMA-Accredited Silver with Cultural Significance

The Lakshmi Ganesh series from MMTC-PAMP pairs bullion-grade silver with Hindu religious iconography, depicting Goddess Lakshmi (wealth and prosperity) and Lord Ganesha (new beginnings, remover of obstacles) together on coins, bars, and rounds. MMTC-PAMP is a joint venture between MMTC Ltd., a Government of India undertaking, and MKS PAMP SA, the Swiss bullion group that owns the PAMP Suisse brand. Established in 2008, the venture operates India's first and only LBMA-accredited refinery for both gold and silver, located in Haryana.

These products serve a dual purpose that most Western bullion does not. They are legitimate silver investments, struck at .999 fine purity with individual serial numbers and tamper-proof Certicard packaging. They are also culturally significant objects, particularly popular as gifts during Dhanteras, Diwali, weddings, and religious ceremonies where buying precious metals is considered auspicious. This combination of LBMA-grade assurance and cultural relevance gives the series a market position that generic silver bars simply cannot replicate.

Outside India, the Lakshmi Ganesh line finds its audience among the Indian diaspora in the UK, US, Singapore, and the Middle East. For these buyers, the MMTC-PAMP name carries trust that local or unknown refiners cannot match. The LBMA accreditation means guaranteed international buyback, and the sealed Certicard packaging with nil negative weight and purity tolerance provides assurance that the stated silver content is exactly what you receive.

Some editions are produced at .9999 fineness (four nines) rather than the standard .999 (three nines), particularly in the round format. All pieces come in tamper-proof Certicard packaging with a unique serial number and individual assay certification. MMTC-PAMP guarantees nil negative weight tolerance and nil negative purity tolerance, meaning the customer always receives at least the stated weight and purity.

The product range includes several distinctive formats. Coloured silver bars feature printed detail on the deity images over the .999 silver base. Stylised versions use a more contemporary, geometric art style compared to the traditional detailed depictions. Some products are sold as matched pairs, combining a Lakshmi piece with a Ganesh piece in a single package. The range spans from the accessible 10g silver bar up to the substantial 1 Kilo silver bar.

Tax Treatment for Silver Lakshmi Ganesh Products

These are not legal tender in any jurisdiction. They are classified as silver bullion products, and their tax treatment follows the standard rules for silver in each country.

  • United Kingdom: Silver bullion attracts 20% VAT on purchase. MMTC-PAMP silver bars and coins sold in the UK carry this tax. Gold Lakshmi Ganesh products, by contrast, are VAT-free as investment gold. Silver is not exempt from Capital Gains Tax unless it is UK legal tender (which these are not).
  • India: 3% GST applies to silver bullion. MMTC-PAMP products qualify for guaranteed buyback through authorised dealers due to their LBMA purity certification and sealed packaging. This buyback liquidity is a significant differentiator in the Indian market where purity trust is a persistent concern.
  • Singapore: Silver meeting the Investment Precious Metals (IPM) criteria of at least 99.9% purity is GST-exempt. The .999 and .9999 purity of these products qualifies.
  • United States: Federal capital gains on silver apply at the collectibles rate of 28% for long-term holdings. State sales tax varies. IRA eligibility for MMTC-PAMP silver products is unclear, as the refinery is not COMEX/NYMEX-approved.
  • Canada: Silver bullion at 99.9% purity or above is exempt from GST/HST. MMTC-PAMP silver qualifies at .999 purity.
  • Australia: Silver at 99.9% purity or above is GST-free as investment-grade precious metal. MMTC-PAMP .999 silver meets this threshold.

MMTC-PAMP vs Other Indian Refiners and International Brands

Among Indian silver refiners, MMTC-PAMP's primary advantage is LBMA accreditation. No other Indian refiner holds Good Delivery status for both gold and silver. Competitors like Kundan, Tanishq (Tata Group), and RSBL produce silver products with BIS hallmarking, which certifies purity but does not guarantee weight tolerance to the same standard. MMTC-PAMP's nil negative tolerance policy is stricter than BIS requirements, and the LBMA stamp means the products are accepted internationally, not just within India.

Against its own parent brand, PAMP Suisse's Fortuna line, the Lakshmi Ganesh series is priced more competitively for the Indian domestic market. PAMP Suisse bars carry the Lady Fortuna design and command higher premiums internationally due to stronger brand recognition in Western markets. For buyers in India or the Indian diaspora, the Lakshmi Ganesh products offer equivalent refining quality at a lower price point, with the added cultural resonance of the deity imagery.

The joint venture structure behind MMTC-PAMP is itself unusual in the bullion world: a sovereign government entity (MMTC Ltd.) partnered with the world's largest independent bullion refiner (MKS PAMP SA). This gives the products an institutional backing that purely private refiners lack. MMTC-PAMP also mints Royal Mint Gold Sovereign coins for the Indian market, a rare instance of an Indian facility producing British legal tender.

In April 2026, MMTC-PAMP won the "Best Silver Refinery and Minted Products Manufacturer" award at the India Silver Conference, further consolidating its position at the top of the Indian silver refining market.
