About the 1 Kilo Scottsdale Stacker Silver Bar

The Original Interlocking Kilo Silver Bar

The 1 Kilo Scottsdale Stacker Silver Bar is the kilo-weight entry in Scottsdale Mint's signature Stacker bar range. The defining feature is the precision-machined interlocking bevel: a raised ridge on the top nests into a recessed channel on the bottom of the next bar, creating mechanically stable stacks that resist sliding. This is the design that Scottsdale Mint has trademarked and built its reputation around since 2010.

At 999 fine silver and 1,000 grams (32.15 troy ounces), the bar hits the kilo sweet spot for buyers prioritising low premiums per ounce. Premiums on kilo silver bars run 3-6% over spot, placing them alongside 100 oz bars as the most cost-efficient retail silver format. The Scottsdale Stacker carries a modest brand premium above generic refiner bars, but this is offset by genuine functional value for anyone who stores their own bullion.

The bar is produced on-site at Scottsdale Mint's Arizona facility using CNC minting equipment. Each bar is stamped with a unique serial number, and the reverse features the anti-forgery swirl pattern that is machine-cut and unique to each piece. Scottsdale Mint is ISO 9001:2015 certified and produces all products from raw materials stored on-site, which means production runs to order rather than from finished stock.

That made-to-order approach is the one practical trade-off. During demand spikes, delivery can stretch to 4-6 weeks. Buyers who need immediate delivery may want to check dealer stock before ordering, as secondary market Stackers are also widely available.

The Stacker bar range includes three sizes: 10 oz, 1 kilo, and the 100 oz "King Stacker." Bars of the same size interlock with each other, but the rectangular bars do not cross-interlock with different sizes or with the separate Lion Stacker Rounds line (1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 100 g rounds that share a 38.8 mm diameter for cross-denomination stacking).

Tax Treatment by Country

The Scottsdale Stacker is a private mint silver bar with no legal tender status. Tax treatment follows standard silver bar rules in all jurisdictions.

United Kingdom

20% VAT applies on purchase. Silver bars are also subject to CGT on disposal at 18-24% with a £3,000 annual exemption. No CGT exemption applies, as bars lack legal tender status. UK buyers wanting silver with CGT relief should consider the Silver Britannia coin, which carries the same VAT but is CGT-exempt.

United States

The bar is IRA-eligible at 999 purity. Most states exempt bullion from sales tax. Capital gains are taxed at the 28% collectibles rate for long-term holdings. The Stacker qualifies for self-directed Precious Metals IRAs through an approved custodian.

Canada

GST/HST exempt for silver at 99.9%+ purity. Also eligible for RRSP and TFSA accounts at qualifying purity.

Australia

GST-free for investment-grade silver at 99.9%+ purity. Capital gains subject to CGT with a 50% discount for assets held over 12 months.

Singapore and Hong Kong

Singapore exempts IPM silver at 99.9% from the 9% GST, with no capital gains tax. Hong Kong has no tax of any kind on bullion transactions.

New Zealand

GST-exempt for fine silver at 99.9%+ purity. No formal capital gains tax.

European Union

Full VAT at the member state's standard rate. No EU exemption for silver bars.

From Stacker Bars to a Private Mint Identity

The Stacker concept originated in 2010 when Scottsdale Mint launched its first product line. Josh Phair, the founder and CEO, came from the mining insurance sector at Willis Towers Watson, where he managed North American mining practices. That background in engineering and risk management informed the mint's design-first approach to bullion products.

The original Stacker was the 10 oz silver bar, introduced as a practical solution to a real storage problem: smooth flat bars slide against each other when stacked, creating instability in safes and vaults. Scottsdale's beveled interlocking edges solved this mechanically, and the design became the mint's defining product. The kilo and 100 oz King Stacker sizes followed as the line expanded.

The "stacker" label is worth a note on timing. In bullion community slang, a "stacker" has long meant someone who accumulates physical precious metals. Scottsdale appropriated and trademarked the term for their product line, and the bar design has become so closely associated with the word that the two are frequently conflated. The registered trademark symbol appears on all Scottsdale Stacker products.

Scottsdale Mint has since expanded beyond its house brand. The mint produces sovereign bullion coins under contract for several nations, but the Stacker line remains the proprietary product that defines the company. The CNC manufacturing approach, ISO certification, and made-in-Arizona branding position Scottsdale as a premium American private mint, distinct from both generic refiners and sovereign government mints.

Scottsdale Stacker vs Other Kilo Silver Bars

The Scottsdale Stacker's main competitors in the kilo bar segment include both generic refiner bars and products from other recognised mints.

The 1 Kilo Wall Street Mint Silver Bar is actually from the same parent company. Wall Street Mint is a sub-brand of Scottsdale Mint, featuring NYC skyline designs on cast/poured bars. The Wall Street Mint bar is a traditional flat bar without the interlocking mechanism, and it tends to carry slightly lower premiums. Both are 999 fine, made in Arizona, and carry the Scottsdale lion hallmark.

The 1 Kilo SilverTowne Pony Silver Bar offers a cast-bar alternative from another American private mint. The Pony bar is hand-stamped with a Pony Express rider design, giving each piece individual character from the casting process. It lacks the Stacker's interlocking edges but appeals to buyers who prefer the aesthetic and tactile qualities of poured silver. Premiums are comparable.

Generic kilo bars from LBMA-accredited refiners, such as the 1 Kilo Nadir Refinery Silver Bar, trade at lower premiums than the Stacker. The silver content is identical, and resale liquidity is equivalent through major dealers. The premium gap between a Stacker and a generic refiner bar represents the cost of the interlocking design and brand recognition.

The 1 Kilo Royal Mint Silver Bar competes at a higher price point with sovereign mint provenance. For buyers who store silver at home, the Stacker's practical design advantage may outweigh the Royal Mint's institutional pedigree. For buyers using professional vault storage, where bars are handled by vault operators rather than stacked by the owner, the interlocking feature is less relevant.

1 Kilo Scottsdale Stacker Silver Bar: frequently asked questions

The lowest price across dealers we track is $2,203.32, with a premium of 4.5% over the $65.58 silver spot price. Summit Metals currently lists the best price. A kilogram bar contains 32.15 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, so its value scales directly with the silver spot price.
A 1kg silver bar contains 1 Kilo of silver. One troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so a kilogram (1,000 grams) converts to approximately 32.15 troy ounces. When comparing per-ounce cost, divide the bar price by that figure to see how it measures against the spot price.
Scottsdale Stacker bars are .999 fine silver, produced by Scottsdale Mint, a private US mint based in Scottsdale, Arizona, founded in 2008. The mint holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and produces bars on-site using CNC minting equipment. Each bar carries a unique serial number and precision-stamped weight and purity markings.
The Scottsdale Stacker bar has precision-machined beveled edges: the top of each bar has a raised bevel that nests into a recessed channel on the bottom of the next, creating a stable interlocking stack. This reduces movement in storage and lets bars sit securely in a safe or vault without sliding. The design is Scottsdale Mint's proprietary engineering, giving it a practical storage advantage over flat bars.
