About Galaxy Coins

The Online Bullion Arm of Australia's CPG Group

Galaxy Coins is an Australian precious metals dealer and the online retail arm of the CPG Group of Companies, a group whose businesses span bullion retail, gold buying, assaying, refining, casting and minting. The Galaxy Coins business name was registered in 2013 under an ABN that has been active since April 2000, and sister businesses in the group include Cash for Gold Australia and CPG Group Refinery.

The group operates a precious metals refinery in Oakleigh South in south-eastern Victoria, accredited by NATA to ISO/IEC 17025 for technical competence. The refinery manufactures cast and minted gold bars at 99.99% purity and silver bars and coins at 99.95% under the C4G Australia and CPG Group brands, supplying other Australian dealers as well as Galaxy Coins' own store. CPG Group is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council and the Jewellery Association of Australia.

Alongside the web store, the business runs walk-in retail premises in Richmond in Melbourne, Erskineville in Sydney and Red Hill in Brisbane, plus a store in Dubai. The retail range covers gold, silver and platinum coins from international mints alongside the group's own manufactured bullion.

Galaxy Coins: frequently asked questions

Galaxy Coins is an Australian bullion retailer and part of the CPG Group of Companies, which operates a precious metals refinery in Victoria. It has physical retail locations in Melbourne (Richmond), Sydney, and Brisbane, as well as an online store. CPG Group holds NATA accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025) for its refinery and is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
We currently track 107 listings from Galaxy Coins on BullionFerret. Their range includes gold and silver coins and bars, including products manufactured by CPG Group's own refinery under the C4G Australia and CPG Group brands.
Physical checks include verifying weight and dimensions against the coin's published specifications, testing with a rare-earth magnet (gold is non-magnetic), and using the ring test for coins (a genuine gold coin produces a clear tone). Buying from an established dealer whose products come from known refineries or sovereign mints is the primary safeguard, as their supply chain is traceable. Dedicated XRF testers provide definitive elemental analysis.
In Australia, gold coin sales are subject to Capital Gains Tax at your marginal income tax rate. Assets held for more than 12 months qualify for a 50% CGT discount before the gain is assessed. Investment-grade gold is also GST-free. There is no blanket CGT exemption for gold coins; each disposal is a taxable event unless an applicable exception applies.
