About Gold Traders
Gold Traders: Wiltshire Precious Metals Dealing Since 2008
Gold Traders is a UK precious metals dealer founded in 2008 by Jon White, who launched the business from his home in Wiltshire with a £10,000 investment. The registered company, Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd, was incorporated on 3 March 2008 under Companies House number 06521732 and remains headquartered in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. The firm buys and sells gold, silver, platinum, and palladium for private individuals and investors across the UK, operating both as a postal service and through physical trading counters.
The company trades from two locations: a counter at 29 High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett, open Monday to Friday, and a branch at 3 Fore Street in Bodmin, Cornwall, which opened in June 2025 in the town's former HSBC building.
Gold Traders holds Trading Standards Buy With Confidence accreditation, awarded by Wiltshire Council Trading Standards, and was the first precious metals company in the UK to achieve it. It has been a member of the British Numismatic Trade Association (BNTA) since 2020. In January 2026 it was appointed an Official Partner of The Royal Mint, the only precious metals dealer in the South West of England to hold the status, which enables it to buy and sell Royal Mint bullion bars and coins directly, including Gold Sovereigns.
Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd is also the parent company of The Britannia Coin Company, a numismatic and bullion coin dealer that shares the Royal Wootton Bassett premises. Founder Jon White additionally established RWB Auctions and Old Bank Antiques, both based in the same town.
From a Wiltshire Garage to Royal Mint Partnership
Jon White launched Gold Traders in 2008 after identifying a lack of transparency in the UK precious metals buying market. Starting from his home, and initially a garage, in Wiltshire with a £10,000 investment, he built the company's website himself. Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd was incorporated on 3 March 2008, and the business became one of the first postal cash-for-gold companies in the UK.
National attention came quickly. In August 2008, just months after launch, the business featured in the business slot of BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans Drivetime show, and demand was so high that the website briefly crashed. Press coverage followed in The Guardian's Money section in September 2009 and in The Daily Telegraph in November 2009, both covering the firm's postal gold buying service.
The company joined the British Numismatic Trade Association in 2020. In October 2022 it became the first precious metals company in the UK to earn Trading Standards Buy With Confidence accreditation, awarded by Wiltshire Council Trading Standards following a vetting process; the achievement was reported nationally. The same year, Jon White was named Male Entrepreneur of the Year at the South West Business Awards, and in 2023 Gold Traders ranked 15th on the Fast Growth 50 Index of the fastest-growing companies in the South of England.
Expansion beyond Royal Wootton Bassett came on 2 June 2025, when the company opened a branch at 3 Fore Street in Bodmin, Cornwall, taking over the town's former HSBC building; the new premises were officially opened by Bodmin's Deputy Mayor. In 2025, Jon White was also quoted in The Sun on Sunday's national investigation into gold buying practices.
In January 2026, Gold Traders was appointed an Official Partner of The Royal Mint, the only precious metals dealer in the South West of England with that status, allowing the firm to deal in Royal Mint bullion bars and gold coins directly. Over the same period the wider group grew to include The Britannia Coin Company, RWB Auctions, and Old Bank Antiques, all based in Royal Wootton Bassett.
