About the 1g Ka `Bah. Mecca Gold Bar

PAMP Suisse's Islamic Faith Design on a 1g Gold Bar

The 1g Ka'Bah Mecca bar is part of PAMP Suisse's Faith series, a unique five-design collection where each bar depicts a symbol from one of the world's major religions. The Ka'Bah design shows the cuboid structure at the centre of Al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Islam's holiest site and the direction of prayer (qibla) for Muslims worldwide. The other four designs in the Faith series represent Christianity (Romanesque Cross), Buddhism (Buddha), Hinduism (Lotus flower), and Judaism (Menorah).

No other major LBMA refinery produces a comparable multi-religion thematic bar range, giving the Faith series a distinctive niche in the minted bar market. PAMP consulted with religious scholars during the design process to ensure respectful representation of each tradition.

The Ka'Bah bar has particular relevance for Muslim investors who seek Shariah-compliant wealth storage. Physical gold bullion is widely considered permissible under Islamic finance principles as a tangible, real asset with intrinsic value. The religious imagery adds a devotional dimension that plain bullion bars lack, though the bar's investment characteristics (purity, weight, LBMA backing) are identical to PAMP's other 1g products.

At the 1g weight, the Ka'Bah bar sits firmly in the gifting and devotional category rather than the investment category. The themed design commands a premium above PAMP's standard 1g Lady Fortuna bar, reflecting the niche market and potentially lower production volumes. For buyers focused on gold accumulation at this weight rather than religious or cultural significance, the Fortuna offers identical gold content and security features at a lower cost per gram.

The obverse features the Ka'Bah structure rendered in fine relief against the bar surface. The reverse carries the PAMP Suisse logo, weight and purity markings (999.9, "FINE GOLD"), the Essayeur Fondeur assayer's mark, and an individual serial number. The CertiPAMP packaging integrates the assay certificate with tamper-evident sealing.

PAMP's Veriscan technology maps the microscopic surface topography of each bar during manufacturing and stores the digital fingerprint in PAMP's database. Owners can verify authenticity using the free PAMP Suisse app by scanning the bar's surface through the sealed packaging. This system has processed over 50 million products, making counterfeit PAMP bars extremely difficult to pass off when the packaging is intact.

The Faith series is available in gold weights from 1g to 1 oz (1g, 5g, 10g, 20g, 50g, 1 oz), with some designs also produced in silver. The 5g Cross variant has been produced in a limited edition of 7,500 units; other design and weight combinations may have different mintage limits.

Tax Treatment for the 1g Ka'Bah Mecca Gold Bar

As a 999.9 fine gold bar from an LBMA-accredited refiner, the Ka'Bah bar qualifies for standard investment gold tax treatment worldwide. The religious design has no bearing on tax classification.

  • UK: VAT-exempt as investment gold. Subject to Capital Gains Tax on disposal at the individual's marginal rate (18% or 24%), with a £3,000 annual CGT allowance. Not CGT-exempt (bars have no legal tender status). SIPP-eligible for pension accounts.
  • US: IRA-eligible for self-directed precious metals IRAs (999.9 purity from an LBMA refiner meets all IRS requirements). State sales tax varies; most states exempt bullion. Federal long-term capital gains taxed at the 28% collectibles rate.
  • EU: VAT-exempt under the Investment Gold Directive (995+ fineness for bars).
  • Canada: GST/HST-exempt as gold at 99.5%+ purity. RRSP and TFSA-eligible.
  • Australia: GST-free as investment-grade gold.
  • Singapore: GST-exempt as an Investment Precious Metal. No capital gains tax. PAMP has a strong presence in the Singapore market through MKS PAMP.
  • Hong Kong: No sales tax, no import duty, no CGT.
  • Switzerland: VAT-exempt on investment gold. As a Swiss-manufactured product, the bar carries domestic recognition.

Ka'Bah Mecca vs Other PAMP 1g Gold Bars

PAMP produces multiple themed bar series, all sharing 999.9 purity, CertiPAMP packaging, Veriscan authentication, and LBMA accreditation. The choice between them is aesthetic and market-driven.

The 1g Lady Fortuna is PAMP's highest-volume product and carries the lowest premium of any PAMP 1g bar. The Fortuna design (Roman goddess of prosperity) has universal appeal and is instantly recognisable on the secondary market. For buyers who prioritise resale liquidity and lowest cost, the Fortuna is the default.

The 1g Good Luck bar targets the Lunar New Year and East Asian gifting market with Lucky Cat and Yellow Dragon designs in red CertiPAMP packaging. It occupies a similar premium tier to the Faith series, driven by seasonal demand and cultural relevance.

The Ka'Bah bar serves a more specific audience: buyers who value the Islamic religious imagery for personal, devotional, or Shariah-compliance reasons. It is functionally identical to all other PAMP 1g bars as an investment vehicle. The premium difference between the Ka'Bah and the Fortuna represents the cost of the specialised design and lower production volume, not any difference in the gold itself. On the secondary market, Faith series bars are less liquid than Fortunas simply because fewer are produced and traded, though any reputable dealer will buy them at standard 1g PAMP bar rates.
