About the 1g Multigram Platinum Bar
The 1g PAMP Suisse Multigram Platinum Bar
The 1g PAMP Suisse Multigram Platinum Bar refers to a single gram bar from PAMP's Multigram sheet format. The platinum Multigram is produced as a connected sheet of individually sealed CertiPAMP assay cards, each containing one gram of 999.5 fine platinum with the Lady Fortuna design on the reverse. Individual bars can be snapped apart while retaining their independent sealed certification, serial number, and full assay documentation. This preservation of individual provenance after separation is the product's defining characteristic.
PAMP (Produits Artistiques Metaux Precieux) introduced the Multigram concept to solve the premium problem of small bars: individual 1g bars carry high fabrication premiums because each requires its own assay, packaging, and distribution handling. The Multigram format reduces these per-unit costs by producing and shipping multiple bars as a connected sheet, then allowing the end buyer to separate them as needed. Each separated bar is functionally and commercially identical to a standalone PAMP 1g bar, with the same design, certification, and dealer acceptance.
The Multigram format is available in two primary configurations: the Multigram+25 (25 x 1g bars) and the Multigram+12 (12 x 1g bars). PAMP also produces a Multigram Portfolio containing 16 x 2.5g bars across four metals (gold, silver, platinum, palladium), though this multi-metal version is less commonly available. All configurations feature the Lady Fortuna motif and PAMP's proprietary VeriScan authentication on each individual bar.

The critical distinction from the Valcambi CombiBar: each Multigram bar is individually sealed in its own CertiPAMP unit with its own serial number and assay certificate. Separation preserves each bar's independent provenance completely. The CombiBar uses a single assay covering the entire sheet, which is broken once any segment is removed.
PAMP Multigram Platinum Tax Treatment
The Multigram format does not alter tax treatment in any jurisdiction. Each individual bar is classified as a standard platinum bar for tax purposes, regardless of whether it was purchased as part of a connected sheet or acquired individually. Tax authorities assess metal type, purity, and form, not the packaging or delivery format.
- United States: IRA-eligible. PAMP is LBMA-accredited and the 999.5 purity meets IRS Section 408(m) requirements for platinum in self-directed IRAs. Each bar's individual CertiPAMP certification provides the documentation custodians typically require. Must be held by an approved custodian, not personally. Most states exempt bullion from sales tax. Capital gains at the 28% collectibles rate for holdings exceeding one year.
- United Kingdom: 20% VAT on purchase (no investment platinum exemption exists in UK tax law). Subject to CGT on disposal at 18-24% rates (not UK legal tender). Annual £3,000 CGT allowance applies. The 20% purchase tax is a significant cost that makes platinum bars expensive for UK-based buyers compared to gold.
- Canada: GST/HST exempt as platinum at 99.5%+ purity. RRSP-eligible through approved dealers and custodians. No distinction between individual bars and Multigram-format bars for tax purposes.
- Australia: GST-free as investment-grade platinum (99%+ from an LBMA-accredited refiner).
- Singapore: GST-exempt under the Investment Precious Metals scheme. PAMP is specifically listed on MAS-approved refiner lists. No capital gains tax in Singapore.
- European Union: Standard VAT applies (17-27% by country). No investment exemption for platinum bars regardless of format.
- Hong Kong: No sales tax, duties, or capital gains tax on any precious metals.
Multigram vs CombiBar and Individual 1g Platinum Bars
Three approaches exist for acquiring 1g platinum bars: individual branded bars from a single refiner, the PAMP Multigram sheet format, and the Valcambi CombiBar sheet format. Each involves different trade-offs between acquisition cost, post-separation certification, brand recognition, and security technology.
The Multigram's primary advantage over the CombiBar is provenance preservation after separation. Each Multigram bar remains in its sealed CertiPAMP card with its own unique serial number after being detached from the sheet. A buyer can snap off a single bar, give it as a gift or sell it on the secondary market, and the recipient holds a fully documented PAMP product with verifiable provenance and VeriScan authentication capability. CombiBar segments lose their original assay link once separated from the sheet; they are identifiable only by hallmark and weight, without sealed individual documentation.
Against individually packaged 1g PAMP Fortuna bars (available from 12 dealers), the Multigram offers a lower per-gram acquisition cost because the sheet format reduces individual handling, sorting, and packaging expenses at the distribution level. Once separated, the bars are functionally identical: same Lady Fortuna design, same CertiPAMP sealed packaging, same VeriScan compatibility, same dealer acceptance and buyback terms.
Against the plain Valcambi 1g bar (18 dealers), the Multigram trades a higher premium for the PAMP brand, Lady Fortuna design, VeriScan authentication technology, and maintained individual certification after separation. The Valcambi bar wins on pure cost efficiency with the lowest branded-bar premium at this weight; the Multigram wins on provenance preservation, counterfeit protection, and the collector appeal of the Fortuna design.
VeriScan deserves specific mention for the security-conscious buyer: PAMP's system maps each bar's microscopic surface topography during manufacturing and stores it in a secure database. Buyers can later verify authenticity using a free smartphone app that compares the physical bar against the stored digital fingerprint. Given that PAMP bars are among the most counterfeited bullion products globally (due to the Lady Fortuna design's universal recognisability), this verification capability provides genuine security value for secondary market transactions.
1g Multigram Platinum Bar: frequently asked questions
-
The PAMP Multigram is a sheet of interconnected small bars that can be snapped apart individually. Each bar retains its own sealed CertiPAMP assay certification with a unique serial number, so separating bars is the intended use and does not void the assay. PAMP's Veriscan technology allows owners to verify authenticity using a smartphone app by scanning the bar's microscopic surface. PAMP Suisse is an LBMA-accredited Swiss refinery.

Platinum and gold prices fluctuate independently, and neither consistently trades above the other. The current platinum spot is $1,678.00 per troy ounce. The relationship between the two shifts over time with changes in industrial and investment demand, so comparing prices on this page gives the most current picture. Small-format bars like the 1g Multigram exist partly because platinum's price per gram makes even 1g a meaningful purchase.

This comparison page currently tracks several listings from several dealers. Platinum Multigram bars are a specialist product, so dealer counts here may differ from what you see on gold PAMP pages.
